Buzz: Shane Doan Really Doesn’t Want To Leave Phoenix

In an interview with TSN, Shane Doan said the following about where he is right now as a free agent “I’m doing everything I can to stay there and that’s kind of my goal. At the same time, I have to do some due diligence now in the fact that the longer it takes the the harder it seems to be to get a deal done in Phoenix.”

Doan said “I am going to try and give Phoenix every chance that I can,” and that he is looking for a long term deal.

He added “For me it’s going to be about my family and the right situation for us and the right situation for me as a player to have a chance to win and enjoy the game. That’s a big part of it, being in the right spot and enjoying it. There’s obviously a few teams that fit that.”

Now I'm absolutely sure the Jets will take Dennard in the 1st rd if he's there, because CB is the key to their D,and two shut-down corners will give the DL the time they need to deliver "Chaos". All we need is a good FS to make sure to keep Brady on the bench.

I predict that Milliner will be much more impressive this year.  When you really look at it, his rookies season was not that bad.  I think what scared everyone was the first few games where he seemed as lost as Vernon Gholston.  However, he rebounded nicely and might very well be the player that he was projected to be.

Whenever I see a position coach make a public statement like this, I don't know if I should be pleased or worried. He either means what he says or he's trying desperately to push some buttons....

While we were all clamoring for the Jets to sign a CB1, I began thinking to myself -- is it so crazy to consider that Idzik and company may  believe that Milliner is ready to become our top corner? Risky, yes, but the way they slow-played free agency seems to suggest just that.

Mornhinweg also spoke to the media today (as did McGaughey).

More on that to follow on TJB.

DT also said that Allen will compete for a starting role with Bush and Jarrett.  I smell smoke.

He'll be a Pro Bowler in two years.

@Jeff E. Guy  When you see it happening now, it's all fluff to try and motivate..... when you see it happening after he gets smoked in pre-season.... get worried.

I hear what you're saying but I'm starting to believe that Idzik will "slow play" free agency regardless of position. I think they are going to be very deliberate w everyone. Every FA has a value they are tagged w and years willing to be offered and if they can get the player for that value/years great. If not they move on. I think they would rather play w/out a bonified no.1 at a position for a year than get into a contract that limits, hurts, impedes them from executing their long term plan.

@Andrew Nestico  Agreed.  My nickname for Idzik is Tortuga

Remember the scene from Breaking Bad?:

"Tortuga means turtle, and that's me. I take my time but I always win."―Tortuga talking with Hank Schrader

@andrew I don't see it that way if we make the playoffs and are a piece away from Super Bowl contention then I believe they will do what they need to do to get that piece they are still trying to build this team

@ Bernie Lyons Great reference. Great show. But don't get me wrong. I like this approach. Spend your time making a plan and then work that plan. Don't get worked by the market. Don't act, or worse overreact to the swings of free agency because you know your plan will bring sustained success. Now let's just hope Idzik has a plan he (and we) should be that confident in.

@Cordell C @Andrew Nestico Also. I think next year we'll be able to make a fairer assessment on the way Idzik will operate in free agency going forward. This years class was a modest class at best. Lot of veterans getting bloated contracts. Next year there's a lot of difference making talent, youthful talent at position.
