Buzz: Colorado Wants To Hit A Home Run With a Ryan O’Reilly Trade

At ESPN.com, Pierre LeBrun writes that the trade market is currently quiet and no one wants to take on a significant contract with the salary cap coming down to $64.3 million.

LeBrun adds that he expects an activity filled April 3rd trade deadline, but say that a lot of the activity could take place in the offseason.

With Ryan O’Reilly, LeBrun says that many teams, including the Rangers, Senators, Leafs and Flyers, have all asked about O’Reilly but have been turned off by Colorado’s high asking price.

LeBrun spoke with one Eastern Conference GM who said that Colorado is only interested in moving O’Reilly if they can get a home-run offer for him.

THIS SECTION has all of the previous talk about O’Reilly and the Rangers.

Scott Howson tried to hit a home run while he was in the process of trading Rick Nash.

Recently, Howson spoke about that trade.

So once again it sounds like they're going into preseason/season with blinders on. Stuck on Fitzpatrick and not even really looking at Petty. I thought Petty was better last game and deserves another look.

I don't know, we're experimenting with Flynn, Fitzpatrick and now this guy, why not just keep Vick?

@brunogi

Because Vick wasn't very good so they're searching for something better.

"I admit that I didn't do it as well as I wanted to, because in my mind the position I was in was supposed to be different," Vick said, per The Associated Press. "But I think you've got to accept it first."

That's not the attitude I'd want to see from a guy brought in for this role.

The jets are playing against a number of mobile QB's this season. Johnson can and will help prepare for those contests. Like I said below, this is a good move.

Getting Philip Rivers is a good move. This is just okay.

@Joe B. As long as he's not as confused as Geno was/is.

I think the Jets brought in Johnson just to mimic Johnny Manziel in practice in case he ends up being the starter. Smart move...1st game can set the tone for the rest.

If that is the only reason then it is not that great of a move. The Jets need a QB not someone to prepare them for one game against a crappy QB.

This is the best guy out there? Oh boy...

His numbers appear to sound like Geno Smith, 5 td's, 10 int's, yeah that's Geno like numbers.

Why carry this many QB's?

Now they can cut Geno

@funkymonk

Where is he even staying though? He can't exactly get delivery from a place in Brooklyn if his apartment is in Queens. So almost all those suggestions are probably useless to him.

Probably in NJ, like most players. Staying in NYC would mean a commuting nightmare for most, especially in the outer boroughs.

These Mets games are getting weirder and weirder.

Jake Heaps picked the wrong day to throw multiple interceptions in practice.

I'm  trying to figure out what happened. So the Jets gave Johnson a Heaping helping of their hospitality.

Phillies have a guy named Ruf. I can't decide if I like Ruf or Rumph better.

Mets have set their new high mark for HRs in a month. With a few days left.

I'm going to miss Cespedes when they let him walk.

@MikeVacc: Man, if the #Mets could get just a little pitching ...

Oh noes. What will The Heaple do now?

I think he threw 5 INTs in practice today. It's been a rough few hours for him.

@williamg1

I don't really know why anyone would expect differently from a guy named Heaps. His performance was preordained at birth.

Heaps of Practice Sqaud reps?

@BenNevis

The Heaple was actually my name for his fan club. Because the people who ever believed in him could only be derivatives of sheeple.

@a57se @juunit @williamg1

I'm not sure why. His only hope would've been the PS as he would've clearly been 4th on the totem pole.

@Brendan @a57se

No.

He went to Panthers minicamp and apparently looked like trash.  They didn't pick him up.  Washington sniffed him too and also didn't bite.

He went to the CFL, signing with Montreal.  They dumped him so that they could keep Brandon Bridge, Rakeem Cato, and Tanner Marsh instead.

So... yeah.

Brendan

@tsjc68 Okay, that's what I thought, but was just curious if he was unavailable still.

@juunit @a57se @williamg1

Yeah, had we signed Bonner instead of Heaps, the only difference would be Bonner would be the one getting cut today for Josh Johnson, because Josh Johnson is a better NFL QB than both Chris Bonner and Jake Heaps (and Bryce Petty too, for good measure.)
