Read: Matt Gilroy Is Glad To Be Back

Matt Gilroy officially signed his contact with the Rangers yesterday morning and joined the team on the ice for the first day of training camp.

Gilroy was partnered with his former, and once again, teammate Steve Eminger and Gilroy told Ranger Rants “I just have to find myself more and find my niche and get some confidence and just play from there.”

In a chat with the Rangers website, Gilroy said that gaining confidence is the biggest thing for him and using what he learned during his 30 games with the Whale.

He said that he spent a lot of time with former Ranger defenseman and current Whale assistant coach Jeff Beukeboom and learned a lot about preparing for the game and being ready mentally.

John Tortorella was asked about Gilroy when he met with the media and said that he was glad to have another chance to work with him “Quite honestly when he left us, he was really beginning to understand what we want out of him, he was beginning to understand the coaching staff. I’m happy he’s back because it’s certainly an easier transition. He knows what is expected out of him, he knows how we go about our business. He can move a puck, he can skate and we hope he can help us.”

Gilroy signed a one-year deal worth $650,000.
