Buzz: The Rangers Are On Justin Schultz’s Short List [Update]

4:12PM:  About an hour ago, Mark Spector tweeted that the Rangers were making their pitch to Justin Schultz.

Larry Brooks just tweeted that the Rangers have finished making their pitch.

11:17AM: Larry Brooks tweets “NYR apparently only US team invited to make presentation to Schultz. Badger connection, Tortorella willingness to give ice to kids, pluses”

11AM: Bob McKenzie confirms that the Rangers are on the list.

10:59AM: LeBrun tweets that Ottawa and Toronto are both on the list as well.

10:48AM: According to Pierre LeBrun at ESPN.com, the Rangers, Oilers and Canucks are believed to be on the short list of teams that Justin Schultz is interested in signing with.

LeBrun notes that the Red Wings and Bruins are not being considered.

Meetings between Schultz and the teams on his short list are believed to start today.

Adam Rotter: The Rangers have a couple of strengths in this case and they will need to sell them hard to get Schultz. Ryan McDonagh and Derek Stepan have to be key factors along with the Rangers recent history of putting college players into the lineup. It’s hard to pick against playing at home in Vancouver or being on a power play with Jordan Eberle, Nail Yakupov, Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in Edmonton.
