Buzz: Alexander Semin Needs The Right Fit

At CSN Washington, Chuck Gormley writes that Caps GM George McPhee was evasive when talking about the potential of bringing Alexander Semin back, but added that he isn’t that surprised Semin is still on the market.

On Semin finding a new team, McPhee said “It would have to be the right fit for him.”

Gormley writes that Semin is reportedly looking for a two year deal worth $10 million.

He notes that the Penguins have interest in Semin.

65% of readers said that they would sign Semin to a two-year deal worth $10 million.

I keep hearing bring back Cro if "cheap," but if his hip keeps nagging him on and off like it has been and he is a major liability and gets lit up, then what good is cheap? It is like buying a cheap car , but it keeps breaking down and cant get you to work. It might be cheap, but it does not get you where you need to go. The key is cheap AND effective peeps. I say just grab a solid vet, cro is too inconsistent, on the wrong side of 30 and has this injury question. We wont make a serious run if the CB spot gets lit up. Time to move on.

Good morning by fellow Ganggrels!  Yesterday we did very well with depth at CB, I bet the Oline is envious.  Now all we need for the CB position is a solid veteran opposite Dee train and we will be set at CB. Lets sign Howard today and we will all be very happy and ready to jump into FAcy! In Idzik we trust.

one good thing about the jets in the last 4 or 5 years or so that weve have had either good or great cornerback play and if someone gets injured seems like someone is able to fill-in and do a capable or good job

On a side note I am in love with walterfootballs mock for the jets. Not completely sold on Ed Reynolds though. Would also take seferian Jenkins over nikolas in the second.

Champ Bailey or nah?

I like it. I hope Barry's recovery goes well. I thinks he's a good player also.

You guys see that piece on the Jets.com on drafting offense with the Jets  pretty much all the important people from the front office there in that piece.

Two year deal for Lankster, per Steiny.

Nick Congello

Lankster seems like an ideal breakout candidate this year. If he ever received more playing time I think we would prove worthy.

Verner, Milliner, Wilson, Lankster, Walls, Patrick

I like the way that sounds.

Have we got any cap space left or are we going to spend it all today on backup cornerbacks?

Bent

I cannot emphasize how HUGE this is for the ST unit.  You may not think ST is as important as defense or offense and you'd be right, but by retaining Folk and Lankster, we just basically retained the Wilkerson and Richardson of our ST.

Now bring back the Coples (Nick Bellore).

Excellent, depth will not be an issue.

They are good special teamers and depth players. We should focus on Howard though.

@jake100  Sad but probably true, We have definitely started a new chapter...

Being a big Cro fan, I'm going to hold on to the hope that he can prove his hip has healed (as he has said) through some kind of physical and medical evaluation, and that both sides want to make it work...

Maybe we won't play with safeties this year. Just double the two best receivers. Hmmmm

@Brendan  If we sign some defensive lineman, it probably means the Jets are going to cut BossHogg, too.

Now get the return game going. Seriously Geno needs the field position.

@Bent Hopefully we can add the Odell Beckham Jr of our Special Teams to our Offense. (Which is to say, I hope we pick him or Cooks in the first round)

@jake100  It will be an issue.  FOR OUR OPPONENTS!

@kniff @jake100   Yeah, but his hip was a problem way back even when he was with the chargers and I seen what a real liability in him and how it can really hurt the defense. I dont want to gamble, I want a winning and post season. His age and inconsistency also does not bode well. I actually was hoping he would have surgery, at least then, there was a chance for a real and final recovery, but now, I fear at this stage of the game, it will be the on and off nagging injury that will be a liability. Of course he says he feels fine, he needs the dough, I dont blame him, but I am looking at it as a fan who want what is best for the team as a whole and I think its time to move on.

I don't know if Ebron will be there. If he is I think we take him. Cyril Richardson got blown up at the senior bowl not a good sign

@williamg1 @Brendan  Maybe they've soured on Milliner after his poor rookie season and will trade him like Miami are with Dion Jordan. #medialogic #Hmmm

@Marvel He takes it out on the Jets because he doesn't get to watch the Giants most Sundays.

@Bent Per Manish, it's 2 years / $1.63 million.

@NJ libertarian

 I hear you, but I'd rather draft a guy later on for that as well as sign a guy. Let Beckham focus on becoming a top pass catcher /play maker.

Jacoby jones /Ginn + DAT /Dri Archer... problem solved

Bent

@Brendan @Bent  I suspect the $1.63m is salary only (so there would be a signing bonus on top of that and maybe more), but we'll find out in due course, I guess.

Brendan
Brendan

@Bent I was expecting him to be a bit higher than $815k a year, to be honest. Was thinking $1.0-$1.1 mil or so?

Bent
Bent moderator

@Brendan @Bent  I noticed that, but it doesn't quite fit in with where the negotiations were last time I heard so I'm looking into confirming the figures.  I think it might be a bit higher than that.

@Marvel @Bent  Bo Jackson ran an hand-timed 4.02. Nobody believed him, so he ran it again and ran a 4.14. Of course, this is before the advent of recording Combine times, so it kinda gets pushed aside.

@Bent

 No way he makes it to the second round, he ran a 3.97 40 at his pro day

Truth?  I'll tell you who the truth is, it's Drafty McProspectson from Upside State University.  That guy is going to be a stud in the second round.
