this is a steal.  hed be a 3d rd pick in this year's draft and a potential home run threat

is there a site that will simulate a mock draft including trades?

He concludes that Ridley is not an egregious fumbler.

@a57se When dealing with small numbers (8 fumbles) (650 carries) it's hard to draw accurate conclusions.   I'm glad they signed him, they need a player like him, I just hope he performs well.

I think even a guy like Geno would show improvement if the Jets draft Cooper & put him beside Marshall & Decker. He'd have a wide open WR on just about every play because at least 2 of those WR's would be in single coverage

This is not an endorsement of keeping Geno as the starter

@bradysucks

I think your imagination is getting wilder the longer this drags out!

:o)

You would be amazed by the combined power of Cooper, Marshsall, & Decker

Cooper, Marshall, Decker > Holmes, Edwards, Cotchery

@bradysucks

Marshall, Decker, Hardy + Beasley > Cooper, Marshall, Decker > Holmes, Edwards, Cotchery

@bradysucks

Hey! We didn't call each other any names...WTF is going on here?

a57se

Based on the moves the Jets have made this off-season where they have filled in every spot with decent depth, they are now in a position to also trade away their draft if they really want to move up for someone.

They really don't have much in the way of pressing needs...

Yes, they can upgrade in several areas but nothing is so urgent that we have to address it in the draft.

And Mayock downgraded him to the 2nd best QB behind Mariota

If he falls to pick 2 do you trade with the Titans?

a57se

@bradysucks

Well,he is probably the only guy worth trading the ranch for...

@bradysucks

I would have something worked out with them before the draft if they were amenable.

OK, new Mock today! I took a trade down with Atlanta for an extra 2nd round pcik (bypassing Mariota) and got the following:

Round 1 Pick 8 (ATL): La'el Collins, OT/OG, LSU

Round 2 Pick 5: Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Missouri
Round 2 Pick 10 (ATL): Benardrick McKinney, ILB, Mississippi State
Round 3 Pick 6: Duke Johnson, RB, Miami (Fla.)
Round 4 Pick 5: Justin Hardy, WR, East Carolina
Round 7 Pick 6: Ellis McCarthy, DT, UCLA
Round 7 Pick 7: Matt Jones, RB, Florida

First Pick really liked this draft...

I doubled up at WR and RB with complementary type players...

DGB is an X while Hardy is a possession/Slot guy

Duke is your 3rd down scatback while Jones is your bruiser chain mover.

No stud edge rusher this year with these picks but a solid draft that would improve the team...

@a57se

Pretty good draft.   Already discussed DGB...but in this context, and with you having also taken Hardy, can't complain.   Nothing lost if DGB tanks.  (This is the only context in which I'd take him...as an extra pick and with also selecting a more reliable WR later on.)

Only complaint really is McKinney...I'd much prefer Dawson or Anthony is that same spot if either available.    I think we all have our pet 7th round picks, but I am 100% convinced the Jets will take a QB somewhere in this draft.   If Bridge or Bonner, etc. there in 7th they might opt to take a flier on one of them.  ...

a57se

@hazard2012 @a57se

Both Dawson and Anthony were available but McKinney is the only one we have taken a serious interest in so I picked him...

I am pretty sure Bowles likes length in his LB'ers and McKinney has that in spades.

@hazard2012 @a57se

FWIW, he was one of the two picks I made that didn't get an A or an A+...

he was a B+

hazard2012
hazard2012

@a57se @hazard2012

True, but that's all McKinney has...length.   He's no where near the player either Dawson or Anthony are, imho.

I also like the idea of moving back in the second round, btw.   We can pick up another 3rd or 4th rounder by only moving back a handful of spots, and probably still get one of the ILB's.

hazard2012
hazard2012

@a57se @hazard2012

Understood.  I am if it scores me additional picks and still allows me to pick the same guy I would have had I not moved down a little.   I think that's especially true of rounds 2 - 3 - 4 in this draft.

a57se
a57se

@hazard2012 @a57se

and if the guy you wanted is picked by another team, you are screwed...

not a fan of that method.

If there are 5 guys on the board I'd be happy with, I'll trade down 4 slots so i know I get one, otherwise, I take the guy I want.

I can tell you right now, there will hardly ever be that many guys I want at any particular spot in the draft.

hazard2012
hazard2012

@a57se @hazard2012

I'm not relying on just one guy being there, but several (in your example you said Anthony, Dawson and McKinney were still on board, and I'd venture so then was Perryman.)   The odds are very small all of them will go off the board in the next few picks...which is all I'm talking about moving.

Obviously, it depends on how the board is unfolding, and of course it's not something you'd do if you were really high on a particular guy and you could get him by standing pat.

a57se
a57se

@hazard2012 @a57se

Nope, Perryman was gone plus no one within 10 spots of my pick wanted to trade back...

Trading isn't automatic.

So a one year show-me deal? Is anyone upset about this?

@levi @Brendan

Maybe they dump the worst of Powell, Richardson and Ridley...

@Brendan Seems unnecessary but not upset about it.

@Brendan A few thinking this would stop us from drafting,which it won't.

Brendan
Brendan

@johnnyl65 So "typical Jets fan grumblegrumble," then? I can live with that.

I know Bent wasn't high on him, but hopefully the BGA and a cheap deal sway him.

levi
levi

@Brendan  If they were going to sign another RB I would have guessed it would be a speedster who catches a lot of passes not another Ivory. So I dont get this move.

Brendan
Brendan

@levi Ivory insurance. Ridley is a similar styled runner, can get you tough yards and the team still has the draft (which they've noted publicly is deep at the RB position) to find a pass catcher/all-around stud.

levi
levi

@Brendan  Thats 4 RBs if they draft one. Do you think they go without a FB?

Steven Merges
Steven Merges

@Brendan @Steven Merges tiki barber used to fumble as well he waspretty good. I also read (which not sure if this is true) that the jets feel Ridley fits the scheme they want to run better than Ivory

Brendan
Brendan

@levi Maybe, or they can just cut one of the RB's they have with minimal impact.

Bytor
Bytor

@Brendan Totally meh about this signing. I figure I can get a R7 guy that does the same thing. I'd be better with this if he can pass protect.

Brendan
Brendan

@Bytor you can still get a R7 guy to prove he can do the same thing and cut Ridley.

Brendan
Brendan

@Gilbert Hernandez That too. Macc Attack is making Bent earn his keep this year (does that even apply to unpaid employees? Anyway).

It's a low/no-risk potential high-reward signing. I can live with these types of deals if that's the way they're going to try and fill out the roster with veteran depth.

Bytor
Bytor

@Brendan @Bytor I dunno, the guy tore his ACL and MCL. Even for a small guarantee I'm not so sure he's worth it. Not mad, just meh.

Brendan
Brendan

@Bytor Oh, these are all fair concerns, but for the minimum guarantee he probably got I'm not going to lose sleep.
