According to Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star, the NHL and NHLPA have found some common ground on certain issues including moving the start of free agency to the middle of June, 48 hours after the Stanley Cup is awarded, with no contracts being finalized until July 1.
Another thing that the two sides have found common ground on is allowing cap space to be included in trades and transactions “to encourage trades and get teams out from under heavy contracts.”
Re-entry waivers are also going to be eliminated. McGran notes that the league is moving closer to the PA in only counting contracts contracts in the AHL against the cap when they exceed the league minimum salary of $525,000.
It has been said that the league and PA are close on 13 of 17 minor issues.
