Time to re-sign Big Mo. Apparently he wants 40 million guaranteed. JJ Watt got 51 million guaranteed. If these numbers are accurate Mo's demands are very reasonable considering the market for elite players at his position.

Maybe Mac should offer him 39 million guaranteed (same as Revis) for obvious reasons....

No reason not to get this done right away. The Jets aren't paying a QB big money and they don't gotta pay Sheldon for 3 more years. It also sends the right message to the team and will conclude an A+ offseason for Big Mac

@bradysucks "No reason not to get this done right away."

Other than the typical timeline for contract negotiations, which means this is still going to take a few weeks even if they're already working on it.

The Jets should go down there and take his ma ma out to dinner and make a donation to his Ma Ma's  charity she just open up one .She says the Bill Clintons knows nothing about dis one.

Thats not a bad idea.  I'm not sure how the league would view that.  Sign him to his UDFA contract and then give his mom a job at Flordam Park making about 2 mil a year for 3 years.  He would strongly concider coming to the Jets and play guard for a year or 2 until Brick moves on.

Since many teams will be interested in signing L'ael Collins does anyone know how this process will work? If I understand things correctly there cannot be a bidding war for Collins and there is also no supplemental draft. So can Collins go to whatever team he wants as long as he signs an udfa contract?

Brendan
Brendan

@bradysucks Teams are limited to a pool of money to sign UDFA's with. So there really isn't much of a bidding war to be had. And Collins has to sign a three year contract, iirc.

Know what I love about Mac n Bowles, they drafted who they wanted. The fans haaad no say what so. Ever. These guys will do it their way and succeed or fail.

So La'el Collins is meeting with Rex tonight, has another meeting lined up with Miami and has heard from "nearly every NFL team".  He "fully cooperated" with police earlier today and still is not considered a suspect.

Someone's going to get themselves a bargain and I'm not sure I like hearing those AFC East teams with sketchy o-lines being first in line.

jetsfan65
jetsfan65

@Bent Yea exactly, how horrible would it be if another afc east team ended up with him? This is why i was dying for us to draft him and we coulda had him in the 7th smh

Rex probably brought Harvin with him to help Collins with his legal situation.

Brendan
Brendan

@jetsfan65 If you took him in the 7th he'd just refuse and get to re-enter the 2016 draft.

jetsfan65
jetsfan65

He was bluffing, from what i read, schefter said that he could'nt re-enter the draft next year

Paul Samuels

@jetsfan65 Seems like it wouldn't be allowed. Kind of unfair to the other 255 players drafted.

@Bent well the Pats will probably pass, i would think. The Hernandez situation probably keeps them out.  I  dont care about MIA and BUF as much.

jetsfan65
jetsfan65

Yea i agree with you, i think it would have deff been worth keeping him away from our division and hope that he would change his mind and actually sign. And worst case we just lose our 7th rounder aka simon who probably doesnt even make the roster

I read somewhere that you cant, I thought it was schefter but maybe it was rotoworld

He got involved in a murder investigation? It's shameful how irresponsible so called media has become. Not once has he been named a suspect or person of interest, all we know is that he is fulfilling his civic duty & giving whatever information he can to help in the investigation. Yet media in order to feed the ugliest aspect of human nature attempt to destroy this young mans dream in exchange for rating & site clicks. Destroying the concept of innocent until proven guilty in order to stoke the jackle feeding frenzy, ironically most of the same people engaging in this behavior will be up on a high horse tomorrow for some other social justice nonsense claiming moral high ground, lol irresponsibility & hypocrisy the 2 great taste that taste great together I guess lol.

@Paul Samuels @Brendan @jetsfan65

Nope.

Although, if you want to not be drafted, getting involved in a murder investigation is a pretty effective way of achieving that.

@blackwood1

Hey, I'm a Collins fan and I realize everything you're saying above.

Teams literally didn't draft him with the sole reason being that he was involved in the investigation.  That's my sole point.

I'm not media, just a guy in the comments section of a blog making an off-hand remark (because clearly he DID want to be drafted and didn't CHOOSE to get involved in this thing).  This isn't going to earn us any site clicks, nor have I been duped by any other media source.

Bent

@jetsfan65

If we drafted him in the 7th, he can refuse to sign and then re-enter the draft next year and potentially get first round money.  It would almost certainly be a wasted pick.

However, it's almost worth it to prevent a rival from being able to get him in 2015.  And maybe you could talk him round, perhaps resolving to compensate him for being underpaid when you extend his contract down the road.  That's so uncertain though, plus I don't think any team wanted to be the one to risk making a commitment to someone who could in theory turn out to be a serious criminal.

You never know with agents.  Some of them get butt-hurt if they're left out of the loop.  I've heard some horror stories.

Bent

@Brendan With the freedom to choose anywhere in the NFL if he gets cleared, surely he wouldn't choose to play in Buffalo, would he?

Brett Buffington would be a great name for a Bills reporter. But I guess he is from Louisiana?

No big deal.  Rex was in the area and called Collins to see if he'd meet for dinner without going via an agent.  There wouldn't be any serious ramifications, although if the agent is salty about that then maybe he would try and persuade Collins to sign elsewhere instead.

@Bent @Brendan

He might lend weight towards Rex being the only guy to make a real effort to see him in person after he just lost millions of dollars for something he potentially had nothing to do with.

@Bent @Brendan he could, and don't call him Shirley....

The Saints should be all over this guy...their OL is from Hunger....

Agent probably doesn't care much if the contract is pretty much predetermined.

@Bent @Brendan i have to think teams in flordia and Seattle have a huge advantage. no state income tax. so he gets more money in his pocket. when you lose out on millions, the more you get in your pocket the better

I think the teams that picked before the Jets will regret passing on Williams, with the exception of the Raiders. I think Cooper will be great.
