Well, I really don't want Freeman but I guess I'm not alone in that.

Thing is I don't see the Jets drafting Mariota.  I also don't see us making a trade.  It seems like the pick will be an edge rusher, or, possibly a WR.

Would you guys take Shane Ray out of Missouri with the 6th pick

Josh Freeman Scouting Report

Tall frame with a dense build. Arm strength allows him to make all of the NFL throws and attack the deep half. Stands tall, will step up in the pocket, keep his eyes downfield and deliver the ball to secondary target. Good, not great, pace on release. Keeps the ball low over the middle, away from defenders. Can be precise on fades and corner routes, although he needs a bit more air under the ball.

The Jets have been ranked 30th or worse in pass offense in the NFL the last 3 years. It has been a great offseason so far and the team is improved... but there are a few more pieces that would virtually assure the Jets take the next step on offense...a good WR with speed and a RB who is a threat in the passing game...

With the draft coming up I think it's fair to say that the defense if left in its current state is already a top 10 defense.

If the Jets actually score points the defense will win a lot of games this year....

Scoring points is the key.....the best way to assure this is to grab some more offensive playmakers early in the draft

@bradysucks

Knowing the Jets, they'll take a pass rusher at 6 who won't register a single sack in his first two seasons.

You can make your snide comments...

I'm still correct

bradysucks
bradysucks

A pass rusher is great but even if they get a good one it won't translate into as many wins as adding another dynamic WR or RB or QB....

We know the defense is going to be top 10 with or without a pass rusher...

If we can have a top 15 offense to compliment the defense then it will result in a lot more wins for the Jets

@bradysucks I didn't even read it past the 30th ranked comment. At least you've stopped saying "the worst."

@bradysucks

I see it coming down to turnovers.  We've been bottom of the league for the last three years, largely due to QB interceptions.

Our offense, even if we didn't add another player, needs to improve its all security, or it won't matter if we have a top 3 defense.

Mariota is going to lead us to the super bowl.

What they didn't tell you in the artical is that you have to have competant people in the FO to make it work.

Chip Kelly hasn't completely lost it yet.  He worked out Teebs and said "I'll pass".  Why couldn't Rex and Tanny do that?

jsadolph

@cippycups @jsadolph

Yeah, we couldn't have brought him in.  But his stinch was strong enought that we should have been able to smell him from Florham Park and not pull the trigger on that trade.

Biggest reason why Tanny was fired.

This post said that the Jets worked out Freeman last week.  Is there any chance that they worked him out before or during their negotiations with Fitz? People are assuming we got Fitz and kept looking at Freeman, and that very well could have happened, but we could have kicked the tires on Freeman earlier and decided to go with Fitz instead.

Manish is saying Stevie Johnson has spurned the Jets' interest and will sign with either Pats or Chargers.

Yes, thought Manish's choice of words was amusing.   I should have put spurned in quotes as you did to bring the humor across..   He's such an idiot.

@hazard2012 Oh, I was directing that at Manish, not you. I should've made that more obvious.

No, I took it as you intended.   I'm the one who made it vague in the way I originally posted Manish's report.   Should have made it clear I was laughing at him, not upset little Stevie was heading elsewhere.  I'm very happy about that.

@hazard2012 "spurned."

He'll start in NE and be the definite #3 in SD, which is better than he'd get here.

@hazard2012 does anybody actually care if we get Stevie Johnson?  I'd rather draft a WR.  Johnson is nothing.

@Paul Samuels Borland, who earned a bachelor's degree in history at the University of Wisconsin, said he plans to return to school and possibly pursue a career in sports management. He had a four-year contract with the 49ers worth just under $3 million, which included a signing bonus of $617,436.

I'm not telling anyone to stop, I'm not saying I don't enjoy watching the game, I am saying that when a 24 year old rookie of year candidate just ups and quits football because of health concerns, it's a watershed moment and it has the potential to change the game forever....

At some point , the parents of these children are not going to let these kids play football at the youth level....it's already starting, this is going to speed up the process.....

carlhungus

This is going to be a watershed day in nfl history...mark my words....the nfl and college football you know and grew up with is going to go the way of the dodo in next 10 years max.....

This is a huge deal, and the nfl spin machine is going to be in full damage control, this is a huge moment for the MLS and us soccer as well....

It could be a great opportunity for baseball if they weren't asleep at the wheel.....

@Paul Samuels  There are health risks in a lot of physically demanding jobs.  Fact is, these guys make a significant amount more money than most.  If Boreland has legitimate health concerns right now, then I support his decision.  But honestly if he wants to retire just because there is a chance down the road he may be affected, well he needs to quit crying.  Its ultimately his decision, but for him to cash in and bounce is kinda despicable.  You got people hanging from roofs, and breathing in hazardous fumes on a daily basis, and they cant even afford health care, let alone make a fraction of what he made over the course of his short career in their entire lives. F-ing kitty cat. What happened to the days where a guy retires just to smoke weed.
