Recap: Mats Zuccarello’s comments today

ZuccarelloMats Zuccarello spoke with the media today following the announcement that he would be out 3-4 weeks:

  • On how he feels, “It’s tough but it’s part of the game and you need to go with it. It’s nothing that you want to happen over there. It’s a tough one.”
  • Was it the slash, “no, it was a blocked shot in the Austria game.”
  • Did you know it was trouble right away, “I knew it was trouble but I wanted to take an X-Ray right away but they didn’t have an X-Ray at the rink so I kind of….a little bit and I played the rest of the game and the day after was bad so I understood that there was something wrong.”

  • Is it frustrating, “of course, especially this time of the season when we are at the end. You want to play every game but at the same time it’s part of it and I need to be in shape and be ready.”
  • On NHL players in the Olympics, “I’m not going to go into their debate but everyone wants to play for their country. It’s a fun tournament but it’s not that fun when stuff like this happens. It’s part of hockey and stuff will happen.”
  • On his conditioning, “Yea, hopefully…..they said 3-4 weeks so I have to work hard and….in a couple of weeks or something I will go on the ice and we will see. I will try to stay in as good of shape as I can and be ready when I get back.”
  • Does it help knowing it’s still a few days before the next game, “Obviously it helps a little bit but we will see when it comes after a week or so. Take some new pictures and get an extra specific time table.”
