Read: Why Brad Richards and Michael Del Zotto Were Penalized Last Night

Last night, in the second period, Michael Del Zotto was called for slashing as part of the NHL’s plan to crack down on using that kind of slashing to slow down offensive players.

As Kennedy picked up the puck in the corner and started to skate up the boards, Del Zotto

Joe Micheletti said, “they weren’t much but they were on the arms and I think they let him get away with two but the third one was enough.”

In the third period, Brad Richards was penalized for smothering the puck with his hand.

Joe said “this is another one of the new rules. You can play the puck with your hand, but if you put your hand over the puck and then make a play, it is a penalty. That is a new rule this year.”

NHL.com says that the new rule says “a player is permitted to catch the puck out of the air, but must immediately place it or knock it down to the ice. If he catches it and skates with it, either to avoid a check or to gain a territorial advantage over his opponent, a minor penalty shall be assessed for closing his hand on the puck.”

They add “Richards was called for delay of game for smothering the puck under the addition to the rule, which mandates a minor penalty anytime a player places his hand over the puck while it is on the ice in order to conceal it from or prevent an opponent from playing the puck.”

I need some ammo. My Patriot fan friend is going on and on about how their is no evidence and the wording of the determination in the Wells report with it being more probable than not or whatever.

@BDarc23 HAHA nah Im having to much fun busting on the Pats.

@levi "More probable then not" is a specific phrase used by the NFL.

Ask him why Brady lied about knowing the equipment managers, and why he refused to cooperate with the investigation. And ask him to explain the text messages between said managers. I simply say to those folks, "Your guy cheated, deal with it".

Todd Bowles as a coach . he will never be satisfied  Players can all ways do better. Setting the tone day one.

@Brendan

Nice article Brendan. Tolerance is important....

I do wonder what will happen if a team gets a T.O or Lawrence Phillips type player in their locker room one day who is a good ballplayer who happens to be gay.....I wonder how the media will deal with that.....It might mess up their narrative

One thing I liked about this draft, no Rex Ryan picks. No Taj Boyd, John Conner, Scottie McKnight.

“The Jets inquired about La'el Collins along with 29 other teams. Every single team was required to meet our criteria for the contract. The Jets were one of the teams willing to do so,” Deryk Gilmore, Collins' agent, told Metro. Gilmore is with the agency Priority Sports.

“We just didn't feel it was a good fit at the end of the day.”

@Brendan I think he went to the Cowboys  being that the o-line is very good he can learn from those guys.

@UncleJoe It's about the owner of the NY Jets. You are currently on a blog that discusses the NY Jets.

Stop insisting I'm trying to start something when I'm not.

Wow Jebs off to a slow start. Woody will be really good for Jeb.

Brendan
Brendan

@UncleJoe By posting something about the owner of the team we're currently on a blog to discuss? No.

I don't care what Woody does with his money as long as "spending a lot of it on the Jets" is a big enough slice of his fiscal pie. It's just funny to me, that's all.

@Brendan @UncleJoe I will let you off on a technicality , b/c the two- sports and Politricks was meshed together, but cuidado! No flame wars!

@Pete 57 This comment is now RUINED. FOREVER.

Does Flacco's brother sport the unibrow, too?

Will google him now.

Brendan

@Pete 57  Ah, sht. No unibrow? That's the source of Joe's power so I'm not high on this guy's chances.

How are you guys feeling about Geno? Do you think with Gailey's more flexible and conducive offensive system to Geno skills, and the better weapons, that Geno will be at least a mid pack QB?

Brendan
Brendan

@UncleJoe I think he has the physical tools to do that, but he has yet to do it consistently, or even for stretches that last longer than a game or two.

UncleJoe
UncleJoe

@Brendan @UncleJoe Is it possible that the the inconsistent play, could be attributed to him not having an offensive system that fits his ability/style and no real weapons up until now?

Brendan
Brendan

@UncleJoe I don't know if I'd buy that. Marty runs a system that has principles that should maximize what Geno does best and he still struggled. The weapons may have played a part, although the cupboard hasn't been bare, either (a good QB would have made due with last year's group, for example).

I think Geno's biggest issue(s) are his consistency when it comes to: fundamentals (footwork above all else), making his progressions and not forcing things. Those aren't really the product of anything other than his own play/ability.

I think Geno competes very well. looking to see if he's getting the game in his head this year

Pete 57
Pete 57

My gut tells me Geno does not have the work ethic or drive to be great, that players need to succeed. I predict he will have a career similar to Sanchez. Get a second chance with another team, and end up being a backup who will have a few good games here and there.

bob

@Pete 57

I hear that a lot My brothers they think that Geno not the guy. He's gotta do better this year. thats if he holds on being the starter. I think he will do much better if he starts John Gruden thinks he's improved over off season will see

Some neat little notes in here about the rookies.

To note:

- Len Williams did ceramics at USC

- Mauldin did ballet and interpretive dance in high school

- Williams/Darth Mauldin are roomies at camp.

- Petty much have picked up something from Pennington when they hung out at the combine, because he uses the phrase "It's a process."

- Bowles didn't expect Taiwan Jones to be there as an UDFA

@bob The QB's need to protect the ball more than anything else. Keep that defense rested and don't give it too many short fields to defend and it will dominate.

hitchhiker

Is it your place to give him a nickname, when you & your TJB buddies consistently correct others' spelling?

Mauldin referred to him as Leonard in that article (which indicates personal preference).

Brendan
Brendan

@hitchhiker Is this really something you feel like arguing about? Did you wake up today and think "you know, I'll start my Saturday off by being a dck to a random person on the internet for no reason?"

hitchhiker

Is that what you say to others who correct people for misspelling names???

Or does Brendan not like being corrected?

Brendan
Brendan

@hitchhiker I'm not being corrected, I'd need to have been wrong to be corrected.

Again, is this why you're here? To just troll me?

Len, Leo, Leonard, we all know who we're talking about. Do you correct everyone when they use "Mo" instead of "Muhammad?" No? Then stop being a pain in this instance.

impression seeing Taiwan Jones . Guy looks like a beast he's in really good shape.

@bob Big Cat?

Williams is the Big Cat, lions are big cats, leo is Latin for lion.

Williams is clearly playing Elephant/Leo/Rush/Will/QB killer. The conspiracy checks out.

Maybe 4-5 games in should start really Jelling. Its time for Todd to put this thing together Your dads liking it ,that's a good sign Maybe the cowboys and the Jet Superbowl its possible Todd who would have thought Arizona out  to a fast start last year. We need better play at  QB I think every else will be ok.

Brendan
Brendan

@bob I've only watched half of two games for him, but I tend to agree with Bowles. He seems like a very good player with good instincts thus far.

bob
bob

@Brendan @bob

Bowles spotted him something registered in the back of his head ,he's built like Davis Harris a little when I look him i think how can this kid not make it . Getting excited Brendan Bowles is all ready getting after Smith I thought he was a pretty good route runner all ready  I think he's gonna fine tune this kid

Brendan
Brendan

@bob I'm home visiting the parents and was just talking about it with my Dad. He's getting excited about this team and he's never optimistic this early on in the offseason. Things are looking up in Jetland, it seems, let's keep those fingers crossed that it all comes together.

Yes absolutely That was a problem last year. Marshall gonna help and Decker when healthy is awesome we didn't see that from decker last year with the hammy problem all season. will see Im pulling for Geno hoping what John Gruden was saying is real and at the same time Ill be rooting for the QB that wins the starting job.Love Carpenter coming over relieved. Geno is gotta do it or he's gone I think next year.My older brother doesn't like Geno he doesn't think Geno has it. Geno to me does compete well let see if he's got it in his head.
