Read: The Defensive Structure The Rangers Play

Following the Rangers win over Nashville, Dave Maloney talked about the Rangers defensive structure on 1050AM radio:

It’s that ability to minimize the cycling and pin and protect, minimal panic with the puck and the absence of the helter skelter running around.

Maloney went on to say “If they struggle defensively they won’t have much of a chance because their offensive game is not strong enough to carry them through those night where the defense isn’t working.”

On 1050AM, following the game, Ryan McDonagh said, “We defended a lot better than our previous game. That is our foundation.” He added that the Rangers use their defense to set up offensive chances off the rush and get their forecheck going.

When asked about what it would be like to have Steve Eminger and Michael Sauer return, McDonagh said that “it doesn’t matter who we put on the ice we have a good team structure and we play for each other.”

On their defensive game plan Tuesday, Dan Girardi mentioned on NBCSN, “we want to get back to basiscs defensively. We wanted to keep it real simple in the D zone.”
