Read: John Tortorella Starts Meetings Early

At Sports Express, former Ranger Alex Frolov says that John Tortorella would sometimes start meetings five minutes before they were scheduled to start.

He says that players who were late were fined or had to do extra work on the ice because of it.

The translation is a little rough, but I think the gist of it is that John Tortorella wants his players to be ready and be early for meetings. I don’t have a problem with this, in fact, I support it. I think that most of the Rangers, if not all, buy into what Tortorella is selling and are sure to arrive early for meetings.

FINALLY...Boychuck on 1st unit PP!... Bolts made the Rags look like minor leaguers. We have similar offensive talent, so I would shoot, shoot, and then shoot some more! No fancy shmancy pass attempts. We have to be quick, sharp and decisive! We CAN beat this team!  HELLOOOO...calling John Tavares...this is your game to shine!

Boychuck and Frans back on the top PP unit. I said I got the logic of having Leddy and Boychuck end the PP but that doesn't mean I'm opposed to having Boychuck out there to start it. Gotta love his big shot

C'mon guys lets not start making excuses for Isles already before the games even played. Whether the Bolts had a tough game or not they did play last night. Imo no excuses in the effort dept. tonight. I for one expect the Isles to play a complete 60min game w/ minimal letdowns. Isles should be absolutely in this game if they get solid netminding. W/ Cappy getting the last chg there should be zero issues w/ matching a D pairing against Stamkos line. Would be nice to see an Isle lay the body on Callahan. Also if Cappy decides JTs line can play against the Stamkos line it'll be a long night defensively for JT & Ko as they cannot match the speed. Everyone raves about Franz defensively so match him against Stamkos all night. Go Isles.

Remember that exchange about saving your #1 goalie in back to back games..

5-1 win, 15 shots.

Bishop is an option to play tomorrow night..

Move along, nothing further to see here..

The Ranger announcers make me laugh with there comments after the Rangers 5-1 loss to Tampa. There mystified by the Rangers play against Tampa tonight. Daa Tampa is the best team in the conference and the highest scoring team in the league. Hello Sam could it be Tampa is a better team with more talent then the Rangers.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: OHL up 5-0 midway. Dickinson (DAL/GUE), Ho Sang (NYI/NIA) on a penalty shot and Elie (DAL/BEL) with 2nd pd goals thus far. Ho Sang 1G 2A.

Just watching the Bolts school the Rags.  Assuming Capuano is watching this, he has his work cut out for him tomorrow.  He's seen them up close and personal on Sat and again tonight.  it will be interesting to see what adjustments that he makes to combat what he has now seen.  Good test for him.  Win tomorrow and gain a lot of respect.

Just asking watching the hall of fame induction ceremonies from Toronto, are jeremy roenick and keith Tkachuk hall of famers? .

A few minutes ago while watching the Rangers vs Tampa announcer Sam Rosen said that Tampa felt fortunate to escape the Islanders game with a win, so there is that, also losing to Tampa goes along with the notion that this team is going through some 'growing pains' and will have 'clinkers' like that through most of the season, yet may still surprise us and a few teams in this league with some unexpected wins at east I hope so.

@tonelli27 - I posted this story a while ago, but while we are on reminisce mode:

A pre-season game in the New Haven Coliseum vs. The Rags 1981, my buddy (huge Rags fan, bought a #30 JD jersey at Crosbys for almost $300 back then) and I went to the game. Got there early for warm ups...the NH Coli was small, sat around 8K for pucks. We got into the building and went down to ice level. I'm looking around the stands, and in the end goal zone last row, there they were: Radar and Bow-tie sitting side by side.

I took off , bought a program and started to slow down upon reaching the section. My bud said I had a smile that was face to face. We shook hands with both, me in my #5 white home jersey and got their autographs. Radar had a deep voice and hard shake, Torrey was more reserved in the conversation, but at the end like typical GM, said" Thank you gentlemen for coming out tonight and supporting us, enjoy the game, and we'll see you back on Long Island". True story, they were both so professional and nice. No security, just both there chatting, and finally walked away after a few more fans got some time with them.

The right thing to do from tama again. Should get a nice hand, nothing but class once he got to the island

@isles23 i like boychuk on the powerplay.  obviously for his big shot, but also because they seem to keep things much simpler.  a few passes to get the defense moving and then a one timer from the point.

just feel like the isles tend to do too much on the powerplay and they need to go back to the basics.  boychuk on the point will hopefully help them get back to powerplay basics.

@mrcisback Even Joe Michaletti is Making me nauseous, and I used to like him! Good for Callahan netting 2 goals, I hope he got that out of the way and relaxes a bit tonight, lol!

@mrcisback stamkos is so dominant. With callahan and filpulla thats a heck of a line.

@tonelli27 Bishop is not exactly being tested tonight, he just may play again tomorrow. I was hoping for Nabby.

@jepliberty Hey Jep. The Islanders didn't play there best game in Tampa but Chad Johnson also gave up 2 to 3 very weak goals. I expect the islanders to out flying tomorrow night.

@tonelli27 - Or Gretzky's numbers...

How about some numbers that Paul Coffey rung up in that era for  DMAN...? Never again...sick

@bammer26 @tonelli27 Nice! I saw Van Halen in the New Haven Coli in 1984... :) x 100! I had the great good fortune to have met many of the players from the dynasty years. So much was different then - in the world, around here, in sports. Of course, we were very young. And incredibly luck to have those times and memories.

tonelli27
tonelli27

@bammer26 i have met several islanders from the dynasty, very nice guys for the most part. Bobby nystrom, garry howatt, chico resch were very nice and accommodating.

@tonelli27

I remember, but I forget what season the Isles weren't doing so good, and me and my brother in law who is another Die Hard Isles fan were putting lines together and I said how about Kallur, Goring, and Bourne, making it the KGB line, well the problems still were there then after about a few more games, they were united and went on a tear for awhile.

bammer26
bammer26

@tonelli27 - #28 Anders Kallur was soo underrated. Swedish skilled forward that was great on the PK...

Remember Ulf Nilsoon and Anders Hedberg for the WHA...? I could still hear the crunch up against the boards on Nilsson with #5...how the whole chant started up in the Blues...

@tonelli27 isles are better than the rangers imo.  just because the rangers couldnt handle them, doesn't mean we cant tonight.

@shlo yeah he hasnt had much to do except for early in the 2nd period when rags put some pressure on. He may play tomorrow.

@jepliberty @mrcisback hello guys, looking forward for a big rebound tomorrow night. Lets go islanders.

bammer26
bammer26

@tonelli27 - Coffey's best year was 85-86... 48 goals, 90 assists, 138 friggin points...!!!?

Best skating Dman I have ever seen, better than Orr IMO. Two strides from behind his own net and he was at his own blue line in full flight, smooth and effortless. He and Denis Savard were just sick skaters...

bammer26
bammer26

@tonelli27 - Yeah, there was never any issues with the players involved, but the burners in the blues saw in another way.

Tell you what Vic, sitting up there was something. You could smell the weed sparking and see the cloud rising...not my thing, but never saw anyone get pinched for that. Even in the hallway staircases...

@tonelli27 I expect a big win tomorrow night similar to the home game they played against Colorado.

@bammer26 coffey like the bolivian marching powder a little too much bammer. He was dealt after the 3rd cup, people wondered why. He was a problem in the room with his problems. And that whole crew truthfully was a group of heavy partiers.

tonelli27
tonelli27

@@bammer26 i did sit up there a few times and yeah the weed was thick, also if u were a girl, half way decent looking, you were in big trouble in the blues. I saw some wild shyte up there.

@mrcisback i hope so tampa is a really good team, eastern conference finals at least, maybe more.

bammer26
bammer26

@tonelli27 - LOL, marching powder, back then it was good stuff from what I've heard.

Yep, He and Grant Fuhr too..

bammer26
bammer26

@tonelli27 Bro, I saw some stuff there too. I would get blue seats from my boss at the rink that I worked at in BPT (Wonderland of Ice, still there to this day). The Rags were playing the Flyers back in a regular season game, can't remeber the year. Anywho, the Flyers blew out the Rags and the place emptied out fats late in the game. Upon leaving, saw some dude getting serviced by his girl in a Ron Dugay shirt right in their seat. Not many around, but if we had Iphones back then, would of made Youtube for sure.

I'm sure you remember Don Murdoch and the rumors that were pretty factual...?

The Rags had some major partiers on that '79 Cup team...JD was a major boozer, so was Espo.

tonelli27
tonelli27

@bammer26 i saw some stuff on the auxiliary staircase in the blues at msg. Lots of hanky panky. Yeah that team (79 rags) were a bunch of boozers and coke heads.

bubbamac19

@jepliberty @bammer26 @tonelli27 One of the numbers that I never think will be broken (I think I have this right) is the 76 goals Selanne scored - his rookie year. Rookie year! What happened to the NHL.... 76 points now is considered good and the NHL has a generous scoring system.

NYYanks56
NYYanks56

@tonelli27

A couple of them opened a bar a couple of blocks from my house called Cronies, on 87street and 2nd avenue it's still there under new ownership of course, and I think it was Murdoch, Duguay, and either Hickey or  Dave Maloney.

bammer26
bammer26

@tonelli27 - Murdoch was hitting the H monster...shortened his career. He was a very good skater considering...

The Rags had no chance on the Habs that year. Davidson stood on his head, especially against us. Many within the Hockey Ops say that the Rags were not ready for that series due to the partying, even after winning the first game.

Got to go Vic, be back on around midnight. Good chat on many areas as usual.

Later..

bammer26
bammer26

@jepliberty- Hey Jep, hope all is good. Murdoch and Dugay were very popular, but I remember hearing that it was Murdoch and Pat Hickey who had a couple of establishments.

Remember that silly "Oooh La la Sasoon" jean commercial..? LOL..with Dugay, Espo, and Dave Maloney...

Dugay would get razzed big time in the Spectrum with the pretty boy whistles...
