This season with the Connecticut Whale, Evgeny Grachev has 15 goals and 10 assists. He is three points behind his total of 28 from last season in Hartford.
At Howlings, Mitch Beck wrote this about Grachev recently:
He just doesn’t have the heart, the consistency or the talent to make it at the next level. He can barely sustain it at this level. Maybe a change of scenery changes that, but losing him would not really affect much.
In eight games with the Rangers this season, Grachev had zero points. Grachev is still on his entry-level contract which runs through 2012-13.
…Beck watches nearly every, if not all, Whale games. He has seen Grachev more than anyone and his opinion on this can’t be discounted. I think Grachev was hyped up way too much when he went 40 and 40 with Brampton of the OHL. He is still only 21 years old and has a lot of time to develop, but if the Rangers do want to move him, this year at the draft is probably the right time. He is still looked at as a top prospect with the Rangers but if they want to move him, they need to do it when his value is still high and they could get something nice and of value for him. I preach patience and believe that is still the case with Grachev, but at some point he does need to put together a consistent effort and fulfill more of the promise that he has shown before.
