Viz is considered the leader on D? And they lead the league in GA, where the hell is his leadership?

There is no hope. WANG SNOW AND CAPPY are all back next year

We should let Detroit or Pittsburgh draft our pick I would feel a hell of a lot better. The Islanders draft is almost as funny as Sandy  Alderson saying 90 wins.I am sure our one scout is up all not getting ready for the draft.Kenny get off that Golf Course!

Just read that Barry Trotz was just let go by Nashville. I know it won't happen, but I'd like him to replace Cappy. I'm sure he'd have a good laugh if approached.

Capuano came along at a good time and righted some wrongs. He made them a bit better, but he has some to go. Although Snow hasn't been the greatest he does have to work within Wang's limits.

Goalie is the first position they need to fix. Although the team defensively is still lacking, al 3 goalies let in too many soft goals.

I got frustrated at how many time they all missed the net at rather close range. Yea it's only a 4 x 6 target, and really half with the way goalies play these days, but these are pros and they should hit the net more than they are. There's also way too much passing. An open net not shot at so a pass can give someone else a chance? Nice guy but you don't win games like that.

They also need more toughness. Too many times the big guns were molested with nobody to back them up. That has to change.

Just my opinions.

Waiting for the Capuano was let go by the Islanders article! One can dream!

OK...another failed season. Now I can look forward to all the apologists out there to praise every little move we make during the off-season. For years i've noticed how although we kill or backup goalie GM...when he does make a move, all I see is praise.Enough already. He is a disaster. Goodbye Garth. Take your oversized shoulder pads with you and please leave the room.

Why is cappy still the coach this was a tital disaster of a season he should be fired immedietly

A few thoughts...

1. Should be an interesting competition for Defense spots next season; Czuzman v. Strait, for example or Reinhart v. Whoever...still think they need a veteran better than Viz to lead the way

2. I thought this was the season to see whether the young goalies were any good. They were clearly not good enough. Not even close, really. Nillson looks awful, awful, awful BUT didn't lose a single shootout...

3. Time to fish/cut bait with Bailey; put him on Jt's left wing and see what happens if you put him in a position to succeed. If that doesn't work, he's a checking wing on the 3rd line or trade.

people who debate whether to give away the pick...  remind me...  why exactly did they put that clause in the trade?  wasn't it so that they could keep it in case it was a high first-rounder?  and now they should... give it away?!?  and then you complain that management doesn't have a plan, when you're suggesting they should change their mind about what they intended to do?  i think it'd be a joke of they gave away the pick.

Comical that Snow and the coaching staff are conducting exit interviews today when they collectively should be shown the exit door.

willymayshays

No good GM will work well with Wang and Snow will never hire someone who is smarter than him... This org is screwed till Wang sells or completely changes the way he runs the organization.

It's a shame, because I do really, really like a lot of the kids that have come up this yr.  Have to give them credit for their play despite their coach.

And also, why is it suggested that this season was some unexpected "disaster"? LAST SEASON WAS THE ANOMALY, and wouldn't be considered "successful" by 29 other teams!

I say keep the pick at 5 and take Ehlers. He's like a Michael Grabner with better hands

As long as the current owner, GM and head coach remain, this team will be watching Bailey have another great March and April, when it means nothing. Then, bring up 10 or 11 players who care and try their best and finish strong. MAny of whom will be traded, released or buried by the brilliance of the head coach and GM. The excitement will be relagated to wondering where we will draft, 1, 2, 3 or 4(unless the collective brain trust trades away the first round pick again).  Can we please have Jiggs everynight, or at least most nights???

I think this is traditionally a big vacation week for Islander employees.

Its looks like Calgary didn't show up tonight in Vancouver even though the game isn't over yet. The Islanders will probably get pushed back from the 4th pick to the 5th after tonight. Maybe its a good thing because in 2011 the Devils leaped froged over the Islanders and picked 4th. The Devils were salivating when Adam Larsen was sitting there at #4 for the Devils. I read the Islanders wanted Adam Larsen really bad but its funny how things work out sometimes, Larsen is struggling and Strome looks like he's going to be a real good player.

@WoodsideNative  i tend to agree.  i'm also still worried about the defense.  mayfield didn't do that well (last night was a disaster) and czuczman isn't likely to be here.  so you're basically counting on reinhart to make a difference next year.  other than that, you're back at relying on strait and visnovsky, which doesn't sound so good to me.  and you have to hope de haan can stay healthy which is far from certain.

Don22
Don22

@bubbamac19 I don't think Bailey is ever going to live up to his contract.  But let's face it - he's not the only player to have too big of a contract. The biggest difference is most of those players at least had a career year before getting the money.  If he puts up .50 a game and plays well defensively, it's not the worst thing in the world.  He is only "horrible" because of the contract he has and the expectations of the #5 pick.  He is what he is.  The only way I think he gets traded or cut is if a new owner and GM comes in and the GM just doesn't care about the money.

@gleichzahl  I think the real question is...what is management going to do in the off season and next year??? will it be another cap floor year, same goalie situation and defense?  If so then give away this years pick (unless we win the lottery draft) and take a chance for Connor McDavid next year!  Because if nothing changes i'd bet my house that we will be bottom 5 in the league again.  But that is only something management could know!!!

Now if Wang does intend to sell and has a real buyer the correct thing to do would be to keep this year and give away next.

bubbamac19
bubbamac19

@gleichzahl  I know, right? Better to use the pick now. Better to deal with the devil you know (top 5 pick) than the devil you don't (wherever they may pick next year).

@Scott Weinstein- It doesn't matter who they draft. They have a miserable track record developing and nurturing their young talent. Anyone could have gotten JT right, Hamonic was another, but they fanned on myriad others. The only franchise worse than the Isles with this is the Oilers.

Please, never make comparisons between the Islanders, and the Devils, just their front office alone is heads and tails over the guys from Long Island.

justintime

@mrcisback That is far from decided yet, neither one has shown what they will be yet.

What is decided is the 08 and 10 drafts and we got killed going from 4 to 5 there.

What would this team look like today with Johansen and Pieterangelo on it instead of Bailey and Clutterbuck?

Ask yourself that...

Sam Sam

@mrcisback   This year there are 4 good players in the draft and a huge drop-off after 4 so this amazing streak to end the season really hurt the Isles future.

@gleichzahl  Not to mention Czuc scored the 3rd goal for Buffalo! Even Hamonic still makes his errors but he has developed well. The rest like you say....eh!

Bailey needs to shoot more if he is gonna be anything more then 40 assists a season. You can't score 15 goals on 98 shots in a season. He passes very well, plays excellent defense, and can play center in a pinch.

His contract isn't a burden going forward. The cap will increase and his long term deal will be about 5% of total payroll. He needs 5 shots every two games, rather then 5 shots every four games.

rmreturns

Tuesday will clear a lot of those things up. Their sitting five, with an 8% chance of winning. The whole missing out in 2015 doesn't make a lot of sense when you consider those numbers.

If you think having JT for the Final 1/3 of the season is worth 5 more points in the standings, the Isles finish 20. That leaves them a 1% chance of winning the lottery.

Be shocked if they don't defer the pick until 2015. Take the top 5 player, and sign a goalie.

@tag1 @dkdk  I also remember someone saying that the Maple Leafs were a well run organization and were doing things the "right" way in Toronto. Funny, they aren't in the playoffs either. It boils down to a matter of opinion. Just because you have an opinion on a topic doesn't necessarily mean you will be right about it.

@justintime - Of course Snow will get plenty of calls...he's a patsy. Everyone knows they can rip him off, and they do on every trade.

Again, name me ONE TRADE where Snow fleeced the other team or at the very least didn't get totally taken to the shed?

You can't do it.

Didn't miss him, he's ranked 13th among NA skaters in the CS final rankings. Not sure why so many people are horny for another center man when the Isles are clearly short on depth at the wing position…especially LW.

mrcisback
mrcisback

@justintime   My guess it was Toronto trying to trade Reimer to the Islanders for a package beginning with Brock Nelson. The Vanek trade was the worst trade in the last 5 years if not longer. It made no sense to me.

justintime
justintime

@mrcisback I did hear that and I took it as some GM was trying to rip off Snow again.  The thought process being if he could trade Nino for Clutter and give up so much for FA Vanek and trade three first round prospects for a FA Ryan Smyth, why can't I pull something off with him.

If I was a GM, Snow would be my first call.

No other goalies went lately for more than 2nd or 3rd picks, so I can't imagine it was a goalie actually worth Nelson +...

Can't blame a GM for trying though...

If Snow is still GM at the draft, he will get plenty of calls... That is for sure.

Chris

@Isleguy27 - We don't know if they're busts, they haven't been drafted yet.

mrcisback

@justintime  I don't know if you caught Jiggs comments in the game telling Butch that he spoke with Garth Snow earlier in the season and said he had a chance to get a good goaltender but the team wanted Brock Nelson plus. I wonder what goaltender that was.

@mrcisback Yeah your right, I didn't even bring up that time.

@mrcisback @justintime- Guaranteed had we had the chance to draft any of those players, they would have came here and been as bad as Scissons was.

mrcisback
mrcisback

@justintime  Your exactly right. In 1990 the Islanders won the last game of the season on an overtime goal by Uwe Kruup and went from the 4th pick to the 6th pick. I remember watching that game and went nuts because there were 5 top players Nolan, Nedved,Primeau,Ricci and Jagr. I knew they just blew it. Jagr was picked 5th and Scott Scissons was picked 6th by the Islanders. Those 4 cups cost us big time.

justintime

@mrcisback @Sam Sam ---- Unbelievable, this franchise just seems cursed.  Even on last day of year there is bad news.  I thought the fourth was wrapped up too.

We need a change so bad, just for some fresh air if nothing else...

Need some hope here, come on Wang - announce it already.

mrcisback

@Sam Sam @mrcisback  Maybe Calgary will pull off a big comeback win tonight. The Islanders were 4 points behind Calgary with 3 games to play. I thought we were looking pretty good for the 4th.

@mrcisback   8.1% chance of the #1 pick now.  We'll see what happens...

mrcisback
mrcisback

@Chris @Sam Sam   I think if the Islanders got lucky and won the lottery they would probably pick Reinhart. Thats just my opinion. I also think this draft is a lot deeper then the top 4. Nikolas Ehlers, Nick Ritchie,Michael Dal colle, and a few more.

Sam Sam
Sam Sam

@Chris @Sam Sam That is true but with the 4th pick which is what I was hoping for we would have just taken whichever player between Ekblad, Reinhart, Draisatl or Bennett that was left.  They couldn't have messed that up, the choices would have already been made by the other 3 teams.
