According to his agent Allan Walsh, defenseman Alexei Semenov will also have a training camp tryout with the Rangers
He played last season with Moscow of the KHL
….Competition is certainly going to be interesting in training camp. More depth is good. John Tortorella talked often this past summer about not having depth and how players like Wade Redden had to stay in the lineup because there was no one to take them out. They ended up trading for Anders Eriksson who filled a role that Semenov should have had all season.
Last training camp, John Tortorella said this about Semenov:
“I think he’s added some jam to our blue line, he’s moved the puck better than I thought he could. He’s been great in games as far as demeanor on the bench. He’s been a surprise. It’s kind of nice seeing a guy not wanting guaranteed money, just coming in and playing.”
Semenov says that his game is:
“I’m a big body, I want to play tough defense and help the team; I have a heavy shot,” said Semenov, adding he had no sense one way or the other what his chances of making the team were. “Sometimes, the big stars don’t know if they’ll be on the roster. I just want to come in in good shape and make the team, like the young kids do.”
Semenov, Ruslan Fedetenko and Garnet Excelby are the tryouts so far for training camp
