According to Larry Brooks in the NY Post, former Ranger Fedor Tyutin, traded away for Nikolai Zherdev, could be of interest to the Rangers as a left shooting defenseman.
Brooks writes that Tyutin had been a healthy scratch recently for Columbus but returned last night to the Columbus lineup.
Tyutin, 27, is signed through next season at a cap hit of nearly 3 million. (2.8)
He has four assists in 24 games this season after going over 30 points the last two in Columbus. He has 36 hits and 29 blocked shots so far this season. Tyutin is averaging 20:20 a game so far this season
…Well I think he makes too much money to be on the Rangers third pair, which is where they need the left shooting defenseman. I am a big Tyutin fan but I don’t see the fit as the money is too much.
John Tortorella said recently that the need for a left shooting defenseman has lessened recently.
