According to Swedish paper Jyntt, the Swedish manager of the World Cup team believes that Jesper Fast’s rights are owned for this season in Sweden and they don’t have to release him to play in the NHL if they want Fast to play in the World Championships.
If Fast is brought over to North America, he would start in the AHL and then possibly be moved to the NHL.
The basis of keeping Fast in Sweden is to give the countries hockey federation the best possible players to choose from when piecing together their World Championship team.
The preliminary roster for Sweden’s team is expected to be released tomorrow and Fast is expected to be on the team.
The World Championships start on May 3 in Helsinki and Stockholm.
