McIilrath is an RFA this summer.
He played 73 games in the regular season with 6 goals, 11 assists, 78 shots on goal, a plus five rating and 165 PIM. He played 15 playoff games and had two assists, a plus two rating, 17 shots and 23 PIM.
Hockey’s Future wrote that while defensemen need more time to put the “puzzle together, it remains to be seen if McIlrath ever will.” They say that McIlrath was passed over many times by journeyman defensemen and that his chances of competing “full-time” in the NHL are “fleeting.”
He has played three career games in the NHL and has an average of 7:22 per game.
