NEWS: Rangers Sign Prospect Anthony Duclair

Duclair, 18, has 31 goals and 26 assists in 37 games in the QMJHL this season. He ranks third in the QMJHL this season.

Duclair is in his third-year in the QMJHL and has one-more year of eligibility left. If he doesn’t make the Rangers next season his contract will slide and not count against the Rangers list of 50 contracts.

NEW YORK, January 2, 2014 – New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with forward Anthony Duclair to an entry level contract.
Duclair, 18, has registered 31 goals and 26 assists for 57 points, along with 42 penalty minutes and a plus-11 rating in 37 games with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) this season. He is tied for third in the league in points and game-winning goals (five), ranks third in goals, is tied for ninth in shorthanded goals (three), and 14th in power play goals (eight). He leads the Remparts in goals, points, power play goals, shorthanded goals, and plus/minus rating, and is tied for second in assists. Duclair has posted 19 multi-point performances, with eight multi-point efforts in a nine-game span from December 4th to December 29th. He has also notched two hat tricks, including a career-high, four goals on October 26th against Charlottetown.
Duclair was named the QMJHL’s second star for the month of December, registering 22 points (nine goals, 13 assists) and a plus-eight rating in 10 games during the month. He was also named first star of the week for the period ending on December 29th, and third star of the week for the period ending on December 8th.
The 5-11, 185-pounder has skated in 155 career QMJHL contests over three seasons with Quebec, registering 82 goals and 91 assists for 173 points, along with 114 penalty minutes and a plus-72 rating. He established several career-highs as a rookie in 2011-12, including games played (63), goals (31), assists (35), points (66), penalty minutes (50), and plus/minus rating (plus-38). Duclair ranked fourth among league rookies in points and tied for third in goals that season.
The Pointe-Claire, Quebec native was originally selected as the Rangers’ third round choice, 80th overall, in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
