Earlier in the week, John Tortorella mentioned Ryan Callahan as one of many who need to “play better.”
Callahan has four goals, one assist and is a minus four in 20:28 of ice time per game.
On Thursday against Ottawa, Callahan scored a power play goal, had two shots on goal, two shots blocked, one that missed the net and four hits.
The power play goal was Callahan’s third of the season. He only has one goal this season at even strength.
On MSG during the game, Sam and Joe were talking about how even though Callahan is playing well in most areas, he needs to add more production to his game.
Following the game last night, Callahan told the Daily News that he doesn’t need anyone other than himself to give him a push, “I don’t need that to motivate me. I’m harder on myself than he can be or anybody else can be. I need to be better. I need to produce for this team more than I have been. I start tonight getting one on the power play and hopefully I can take that as confidence and continue to roll with that. But I’m not kidding anybody. I need to be better than I have been lately.”
