At ESPN Insider, Craig Custance writes of the issues that will face the Rangers and Michael Del Zotto when they try and sign him to a new contract when the lockout ends.
One of Del Zotto’s agents, Don Meehan, said that things are going to have to get kicked into “high gear” when the lockout ends and the start of the season soon after.
The Rangers are currently at around $59 million and with the NHL wanting a salary cap of $60 million after the first year transition of $70.2, the Rangers may be in a cap crunch. Derek Stepan and Ryan McDonagh become restricted free agents this summer and the Rangers will have the option to speak with Henrik Lundqvist, Ryan Callahan, Marian Gaborik and Dan Girardi about contract extensions on July 1.
Custance writes that the Rangers need to figure out where Michael Del Zotto fits into everything.
