Stats: Is Marian Gaborik Due For Another Down Season?

At Sportsnet, Ryan Porth writes that based on his career, Marian Gaborik is due to follow up his 41 goal and 35 assist season with a season with a poor season.

He writes “The last four seasons in which he has played 65-plus games, Gaborik has scored at least 38 times. Each of those standout seasons have been followed up by unhealthy, inconsistent seasons in which he has averaged fewer than 22 goals.”

Season Age Tm GP G A PTS +/- PIM EV PP SH GW S S% ATOI

Adam Rotter: I see what the stats show, but it was only in 2010-11 where he wasn’t at least a point a game player following his big season. 57 points in 48 games in 2006-07 is quite good and he missed nearly the whole 2008-09 season due to hip surgery. Even so, Gaborik still put up 13 goals, and 23 points, in 17 games.

Unless he returns too soon or suffers another injury, I would fully expect Gaborik to be the same kind of point per game, or near point per game in the case of last season, player that has made him one of the elite scorers in the league.

BOTH NY Jets 4th Round selections could look VERY BAD in 2-3 years.

2014 is a transition year for NY and they passed up on kids that have huge upside potential for teams that are patient:

WR M. Bryant to Pittsburgh

QB L. Thomas to Arizona

QB T. Savage to Houston

And passing up on WR B. Ellington was a mistake.  He is likely to emerge as a better pro than Saunders who is 35 lbs lighter.

I'm disappointed in the jets off season . I had a whole different outlook on how it would play out in FA and in the Draft , I thought we could have done waaaaaaaay better than what we have done so far especially with all the cap space we have and all the picks that we could have moved around and got better prospects. I hope I'm wrong but i think this off season is the worst scenario that could have happened

except for Amaro none of the players taken where even discussed, safety was not brought as a need and was top pick

Dakota Dozier | OG, FurmanDozier´s "plus" athleticism and movement skills are extremely impressive for a big man, and may remind some of last year´s seventh overall pick Jonathan Cooper. Dozier´s limited experience against high-level competition and very recent conversion to guard (Shrine Game) certainly differentiate him from Cooper in terms of draft value, but his upside could be massive and it wouldn´t be surprising to see him develop into one of the league´s best, down the road.

I would not mind Antonio Richardson T, could better than some of the O line players we took last year or best available LB  in or out

I wouldn't mind taking Herron, even now. Speed.

Is Seastrunk still on the board?

Patsies took an RB, should have taken Herron, they still need receivers, I like it that way

Darelle Revis was traded for Sheldon Richardson and Jalen Saunders

Never thought it possible but advantage Jets

Or they could look really good.  In fact you can probably say this for every pick.

@marcus81  This is the Idzik philosophy: when BPA matches need, go for it. When there's a discrepancy, go for BPA. It certainly worked with Richardson last year. And I think the fact that no one was talking about safety as a need was a problem in perception. Our secondary was awful last year because our corners and our safeties both stunk. But everyone focused on Milliner's growing pains and Cromartie's lousy year. But the safeties were lousy, too. Antonio Allen showed some promise, but he's a long way from a finished product. We were horrible at creating turnovers last year--and Pryor should help big time on that front.

Sweet. Had Dozier as one of my TJB draft contest picks. Last year, I got no picks right. This year, two (Dozier & Amaro). Dumb luck.

@dgdg  Girl and boy names are all socially constructed. Who the heck decides these things anyway? I'd say he's more of a badass for being dakota. He's i dgaf type of guy.

@dgdg  Why don't you take a trip up to Cortland in August and let him know?

@jenkins LB now, don't want to get crowded with late round receivers

Just looked at Pats picks. Not one player improves that team this year. BB true to form. Of course the media will give them a B+.

No he wasn't. It was reported that even if the Jets didn't have the Revis pick they were still picking Richardson.... It would have been Sheldon up front & Revis on the back...back to realitity

@Bytor that DE should help them if he stays healthy, I'm glad they passed on Lee, he could stretch the field

@jenkins

I would prefer Antonio Andrews with a comp pick in 6th or in 7th round.

jenkins

@bradysucks @jenkins  People have him going in the 6th, but I might move up or take him in the 5th.

At this point, you just make sure you get the guy you want. Round doesn't matter.
