10:20AM: At the NHL Board of Governors meeting yesterday, Glen Sather said that a decision on the future of Brad Richards is coming “shortly.”
As of yesterday, Richards had not been given any indication on whether he will continue to play for the Rangers.
Larry Brooks writes in the NY Post today that the Rangers are convinced that Richards will perform better next season and would prefer to delay their decision on Richards until the final buyout period next summer.
It has also been noted that the Rangers may wait and see which players become available due to compliance buyouts and whether they would need to use their buyout on Richards to sign those players.
Richards, due to his no-move clause, can elect to be bought out without being placed on waivers.
