Note: JOHN TORTORELLA, Marc Staal and Marty Biron On Brooks Orpik’s Hit On Derek Stepan

On the MSG Postgame show, Marty Biron said of the hit that Brooks Orpik put on Derek Stepan, “it crossed my mind to go all the way down [towards Orpik] it was pretty gutless and dirty. That guy is known for sticking his knee out and his elbow out. I looked over at the bench and Brian Boyle looked like he was ready to jump over. It’s what he has done his entire career. He will continue to do this unless someone can stop him with a suspension. Hopefully these are the hits that won’t be in the game much longer because they are dangerous.”

John Tortorella said of the hit and the Penguins,

“It’s a cheap dirty hit. I wonder what would happen if we did it to their two whining stars over there? I wonder what would happen? I am anxious to see what happens with the league with this. There is just no respect amongst the players.

It’s one of the most arrogant organizations in the league. They whine about this kind of stuff all the time and then look what happens. It’s ridiculous…they will whine about something else over….. there about their two ******* stars”

Marc Staal said “I thought he leaned out with his side where he didn’t have to.” On Orpik getting five minutes and a game misconduct, Staal said that it was definitely “deserving.”

Brian Leetch said that Orpik is a player without an off switch and that he isn’t a dirty player but that was a dirty hit. “It was a dirty hit at the wrong time.”

Buzz: Expect John Tortorella To Be Fined For His Comments On The Referees Yesterday

Update: 3:59PM:

Original Post: Katie Strang of ESPN NY tweets that John Tortorella is expected to be fined for his comments during his post game news conference about the referees.

On the NHL Network, Tortorella said “I’m not sure if NBC got together with the refs or what to turn this into an overtime game. With two good refs I thought the game was reffed horribly. I’m not sure what happened. Maybe they wanted to get into overtime. I’m not sure if they had meetings about that or what. Again they are good guys I just thought tonight it was disgusting in the third period.”
