This morning on a radio show in Canada, Pierre McGuire, via SI Red Light, praised the potential deal that would send Chris Kreider, Brandon Dubinsky and a first round pick to the Rangers for Rick Nash and said that it makes sense for both sides.
For the Rangers, Pierre says:
“The Rangers become a very real player if you put Rick Nash on a wing with Ryan Callahan and Brad Richards. They become an amazing force because now you’ve got Gaborik, Derek Stepan and Artem Anisimov and then you come right back with Brad Richards, Rick Nash and Ryan Callahan. Good luck trying to create match up situations against that group. They become a very real difficult team to play against.”
McGuire says that Chris Kreider is a very good prospect but calls Jesper Fasth (he mentions Calle Jarnkrok but he must have been talking about Fasth since he mentioned a broken ankle) as someone to watch for the future. He says that the Rangers have enough internal depth to overcome the trading of Kreider.
On Brandon Dubinsky, Pierre says “he is popular with his teammates but I think that Rick Nash could become just as popular if he went there.”
Pierre also says that the Rangers can afford to deal a first round pick because of how players like Ryan McDonagh have developed.
