Read: The Rick Nash Impact

Rick NashPrior to the lockout when the Rangers were skating together, many were asked the question of how big/what kind of impact Rick Nash will have on the team.

Jeff Halpern told Blueshirts United “I think Rick just gives you that extra element or X Factor that a lot of teams need to get to that next level. Just to put an impact player like Rick into this lineup, which was a great team to begin with, it changes a lot of things for the better.”

Brian Boyle said of Nash “He is a good man and a great guy in the room. His resume speaks for itself and he is a great leader so he is going to fit in here.”

Steve Eminger told the Rangers website “He is going to provide a huge presence to our lineup. He is one of the top wingers in the NHL and I think everyone is pretty excited to have him out there and dominate.”

At The Hockey News, they remind people that Nash loved playing for Ken Hitchcock, a coach with a similar demanding style to John Tortorella, and that with Marian Gaborik, Ryan Callahan and Brad Richards, Nash “has the supporting cast to star on Broadway.”

During their time together at practice this week, Marian Gaborik told the Rangers website, “I think it was a great addition, Rick has proven himself in the league to be a great power forward and goal scorer. He isn’t going to just add goal scoring, but overall power in our offense. The scoring should be spread out and I think we will have four lines that can play. We have done it last year and I think this year we can be even better.”

Dan Girardi added that Nash brings another dynamic to the Rangers.

Doc Emrick told the NY Post that adding Nash will make the Rangers much more fun to watch.

Ryan Callahan told the Rangers website, “right away he has fit in the room. He meshes well with us. I think what he does on the ice speaks for itself. He is obviously one of the top players in the league. Just to add him to the mix of what we had last year will be a big bonus for us.”

I'll predict 7 sacks for Richardson, 9 for Mo and 9 for Coples and 0 for Barnes

I just found out from Cimini that the Marino fake spike was one of the Jets top plays. I guess I have a different definition of 'top plays.'

No.  I refuse to hear any more of that.  DO NOT DIRECT ME TO A LINK, I WILL NOT READ IT.

I just had a lovely holiday weekend.  I don't need Angryboy Cimini trying to poop in my cereal.

@a57se

According to the modern era sample size, Smith has about a 15% chance of breaking through to being a top-20 passer in just one season in the league.

I'll take those (entirely unscientific, but whatever) odds.  15% is better than 0%, which is what most alternatives to Geno Smith available over the past two seasons would have presented us.

@a57se Read some guy speaking emphatically that something will not happen while using "sometimes" as his evidence?

@tsjc68 @williamg1 I'm assuming Cimini is thrice married (and divorced) paying alimony and child support. That would explain his worldview.

@a57se I'd rather you respond directly to my comments in your typically grating style than passive-aggressively refer to them to comments directed at others.

@williamg1 Hopefully he sticks to stuff more his speed, like laying on the beach drinking alcoholic beverages and taking photos with fans. Once was enough for me, I don't want to sweat out whether or not my favorite team's head coach will live through the offseason anymore.

@a57se @Bent Not having a great week this week tbh.

Hopefully I get back into things today.  I have an 80% completed BGA to try and finish.

@tsjc68 @a57se

Compared to the Bleacher report piece or the GGN piece and the way Geno is extolled on this Blog, I'd say this article is more fact (scientific) based then most.

@Brendan @a57se Funny, there was a bunch of hoopla last year about that guy JJ.  I can't find it now.  He's a fantasy football guy accused more than once of posting articles shamelessly to sell his book, and his book was about how you only pick late round QBs in the draft.  I think he did win some fantasy football competition which got him some notice.

I assume Cimini's editors promised him a lifetime supply of mom jeans if he keeps writing the same inflammatory dreck.

Dude's gotta eat.  Gotta eat mom jeans.

@Brendan @williamg1 I'm confident that if Rex suffers a life threatening injury, a couple beers and a shot of something good, would probably heel him up. Maybe a bong hit or two.

@a57se

Geno is extolled on this Blog

I don't think anybody thinks Geno is a can't miss player at his position,  but rather people see the possibilities that he can be good enough to play in this league which is as hard to find as an elite QB in the NFL.

tsjc68
tsjc68

@a57se @tsjc68

That it refers to actual facts doesn't mean that 15% number was arrived at in scientifically sound and statistically accurate ways.

Nonetheless, the main point stands:  whatever odds you give Geno of "getting it", be they 5%, 15%, 25%, 35%, whatever, they're better odds that we end up with a legit "good" NFL starting QB than pretty much all reasonably available alternatives over the past two years.

Geno was a good prospect last year and remains a good prospect this year, and we got him without having to use a first rounder, and if he pans out, we hit the jackpot; if he doesn't, we move forward with someone else.

All in all, a pretty good gamble.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se How?

He's saying that Geno won't become a good QB while acknowledging that there are multiple cases of players on his list that became good QBs, one of them arguably became the best in football (Brees).

There are also plenty of players using that metric who posted good scores who are awful QBs (McGloin, Leinart).

a57se

@Brendan @a57se

You are using the "I found an exception or two so therefore you are completely wrong" argument again...

The guy points out that the overwhelming majority of QB's who had as bad a season as Geno had last year don't usually amount to much. He gives Geno a 15% chance of ever becoming good...sounds fair to me.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se I hope you realize no one reads this and agrees, except lunatics like Hank. One-lining a nothing response to posts doesn't prove them wrong, it proves you have nothing to say to them.

The whole "can't be bothered to explain myself" act doesn't fool anyone.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se No, I'm not.

I'm not saying Geno WILL be a good QB. I'm saying anyone saying he WON'T is basing that on speculation and little else.

@a57se @Brendan Are we lining up a tag team championship match with Brendan/tsjc68 vs Hank/a57se?

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se He spent like 700 words telling you all the reasons that Geno is not going to succeed and at the end gives him "some chance" so he doesn't come off as shutting the door on it in the event he's wrong.

He is not mincing words and he doesn't believe Geno will ever be that player.
