Read: Rick Nash on the booing (Updates)

Rick Nash5/8/14 | 7:05AM: Brad Richards said after the game, “it’s tough..it’s a tough thing, Rick is a human being who is out there trying his best and putting pressure on himself but we have all been through different situations and we are 100% behind him. This is a tough league and you can’t just go out there and score goals because someone says that you have to, because the fans say that you have to, the media say you have to, it’s a lot different than that. What a better time to get on the road and not just for him but for all of us to forget about these two games.” (Rangers Report)

He added, “does it upset me, yea it upsets me. It upsets everyone in the locker room…we are not 15th in the league, we didn’t finish in April losing 8-1, we are in the second round of the playoffs but that is my opinion and I understand sports and where it’s all at, so does he and everyone in here but it’s not one person, it’s the whole team, as a team we didn’t play tonight and for one guy or two guys to get booed, it’s frustrating because we all put our foot in our mouth tonight.” (Rangers Report)

5/7/14 | 10:59PM: On MSG, Al Trautwig said “you could hear the booing for Nash and St. Louis and I totally get it but if you think about the human condition, there is no way on earth that booing is going to get you what you want which is for the player to be better. That is just not how things work. It just so happens that Nash was around the puck a lot tonight and bad things happened.”

10:54PM: On MSG, Alain Vigneault said:

  • On Rick Nash being booed, “Ultimately the fans can do what they want. I would prefer if our fans right now were supportive. It might not look it but we are trying our guts off here. We are trying to put our best game on the ice, we are trying our best and I would prefer that we have support but ultimately at the end of the day the fans can do what they want.”
  • Is Nash becoming a scapegoat, “Rick is trying real hard, he had some real good looks. He feels a lot of pressure right now and I gotta tell you, he is battling real hard. Maybe we can rally around that and have a good game in Pittsburgh.”

10:49PM: “Brad Richards said he feels upset and entire room feels upset to hear Nash booed like that” (Katie Strang)

10:22PM: Early in the third period, while skating up the ice with the puck many at MSG started to “boo” Rick Nash.

Nash was booed at varying levels every time he touched the puck in the third period.

On MSG, Nash was asked about it and said, “it’s tough but you understand where they are coming from. I made a tough play and it cost us a goal against and you need to take ownership of those plays and understand why that happens.”

Nash had four shots on goal, 2 shots that missed the net, four hits and two giveaways.

Ron Duguay said on MSG that he thought Nash looked nervous on the ice.

I have been a ranger fan for 25 + years and have been a season ticket holder for just about that as well. The current Ranger "fans" are clueless to the game of hockey. Guys in suits arriving to the game late who haven't watched a game all year who show up with business clients and eat food and drink. Its embarrassing the few true Rangers fans have to sit through the game dealing with their BS instead of cheering for THEIR TEAM. It is unfortunate that Nash is having a rough season/playoff stint but HE IS A RANGER DEAL WITH IT! Booing him does nothing but show the Penguins on the bench that the at an away game their is no disadvantage. FYI the occasional "potvin sucks" whistle chant is getting old and maybe fans should maybe try cheering on their team instead of living in the past. Im tired of people complaining about who doesn't do what, hockey is a team sport and every shift can change the course of the game. I wouldn't want to play in front of fans who do nothing but boo and stuff their faces with food and not even pay attention.

The booing is a sign of capitulation.  That's all the fans have left and that's how they choose to vent their frustration.

Personally, I don't like booing.  It serves no real purpose.  It's kind of like a fart -- feels good to release but it just makes the room stink.  Also, I believe it just drives the opposing team.  You think they don't know the fans are booing Nash and it just helps them seal the deal.

I don't fault anyone for booing, it just isn't my thing.

Yeah we haven't gotten anyone out of the draft what about Kredier he's in his early 20s. I do agree someone needs to go but I think it's more Dolan than Sather. We need a team like we did when we made it to Eastern Finals. I really believe Sather is Dolans puppet. We were up there we have a decent top 6 and an amazing hard working bottom 6. If Sauer's career wasn't ended earlier that season that team would have been complete shutdown defensively. We need one more legit top 4 defenseman and stop going after these superstars that amount to nothing. The Freaking Columbus Blue Jackets who only have Horton almost beat this team. I would have rather played them and got out worked by a team like that opposed to a skilled team like the Penguins. We should be scoring just as many goals as they are. Besides the 4th line everyone of our top 9 forwards can easily score 10-15 goals any given year. Heck they all have the skill to reach 20 goals. Where are they all now? Letang their best dman had a STROKE like he shouldn't even be playing and he's playing better than our team besides Hank. Every one on this team better dealing with a bad injury or something because this effort they are giving is just an pathetic. I really didn't want Hank to sign here for this reason. He's never going to win a cup here or ever now because it's the a different team same story. Every year besides the year we made it to the Eastern Finals it was the same thing our players disappear besides Hank. During the playoffs we normally have one standout player on the offensive side who's consistently playing well. This year its Hank all by himself.

The Rangers need to get rid of Sather and the entire scouting staff. The only decent players the Rangers have are either from a trade or a free agent signing.  The Rangers haven't drafted a real impact player other than Hank since Brian Leetch. They continually draft smallish players who when they come up have little to no impact. They have a good coach who needs players are have some scoring ability and the Rangers have too few of those. Other teams draft and the players come home and have a positive impact right away. This is the problem with barely getting into the playoffs then getting eliminated by the second round and now your picking later first round when the cream has already been taken. Missing the playoffs would be much more beneficial to the organization then a quick out in the playoffs. Something needs to change I have been a fan of this team for close to 50 years and I've reached the point now where I'm finally getting fed up with them.I'm tired of a mediocore team who does nothing whne it counts.

our biggest problem is sather, get rid of him before he trades away all of our future for an older player that is the answer in his mind but no where else.

WE DON'T WANT YOU

AV says they are trying. How is 15 shots trying. Even when you guys lost, you lost when you had more shots. This was a pathetic showing. Every game it is being shown that Rick nash can't produce in clutch moments. He deserves to get booed.

sithlord

and to the rest of the team complaining about it:  Maybe if you showed up and gave any inclination that there was a chance you could come back then the crowd wouldn't be frustrated enough to take it out on Nash (deservedly so).  But you generated 15 shots total.  Pathetic.

From someone that was there i heard booing at the overall play, not for Nash.

Na$h is just another big $ player that comes 2 NY and $hits the bed. So disappointing. I wish he'd watch the tape of the Columbus game where he was a dominant force. Scored. Fought. Hit. Why doesn't he get it? He's supposed to be a power foward. After that tape, watch Lucic. 1 more road game folks.

we asked for one game outta ya when we needed ya and your just a garbage can,no one was more excited then this guy when the Rangers acquired Nash.and your just a dud dude.just a total joke

Umm, buddy.....  It's the zero goals.  You better not start slow next season, or you're never winning the crowd back.  Just ask Malik and Poti.

@Jay Morgenthal While the Nash trade has turned out to be quite disappointing I don't think you can lump Gaborik in with that.  Remember, he's an UFA after this season and there was no way the Rangers were resigning him.  His cap hit didn't fit and they needed to do something. They managed to get a decent return for him.

The fact that he is tearing it up in LA might have more to do with the team around him than anything else.

The blue jackets had 306 hits in 6 games and they have a lot of young up and comers. Boone Jenner is for real.

@jrjr And before this playoff where was Gaborik the last two years? I remember Gaborik getting booed his last playoffs with the Rangers how many goals did he have again?

Jimmy Passadino
Jimmy Passadino

He already did that. If we would of stayed the course with the team who went to the Eastern finals and lost to the Devils but changed Torts for AV we would be a much better, younger team built for the playoffs. Plus we'd have some money for a decent free agent without Nash sucking up so much cap space

The buy out isn't what it used to be. Under the new rules he would still count against your cap.

@Rohail Sid They are trying...our patience.  The CBJ put on a better show against this one or two line team

@bleedblue4 @jrjr  i dont know how many! if he had zero for the rags that would be fantastic! put up a doughnut for the rags and explode for another team....awesome! sather will trade nash and the circle of insanity will continue once again! how much did it cost for a ranger fan to go to the game last night and see that garbage?  a pretty hefty coin i bet.....epic!

@TheGAGLine  I dont disagree with you at all, Ive knocked Nash plenty, but buy him out over Richards thats lunacy.

Loglo99
Loglo99

@sithlord he does suck i never said he didn't, but buy him out over Richards? seriously? Nash can't handle the heat he'll ask for out soon enough better off trading him at some point
