12:05PM: Alain Vigneault said this morning (via the NHL):
- “Yeah, but league standard, and I know the league standard very well because a couple years ago in the Boston series against my former team in Vancouver, and it doesn’t meet the league standard as far as a late hit. It was a hit that Johnny caught him a little high in the chest, player didn’t see it coming. It probably warrants the penalty that was given on the ice. Other than that, I don’t see what else it could warrant, but I’ve been surprised before. We’ll see what happens.”
- “Well, the player didn’t see him coming, obviously, but the guy was admiring his pass a little bit at the same time. Unfortunately, it was a hit in the head because of the force of the hit, the head seemed to snap back a little bit. But as far as what I know about league standards and from what I heard from the Prust hit where the dynamics of the hit changed because Stepan was hurt, I don’t see that at this time right now.”
- “We’re not there yet. I don’t expect anything. “
10:35AM the hearing is for 2:30PM (Katie Strang)
7:28AM: “I don’t think John Moore’s hit was as late as Brandon Prust’s hit was but it was still late and the NHL has the technology to determine that. There was an injury on the play but Weise came back as did Stepan, Stepan ended up with a broken jaw and now we will find out of Weise is and if he is they will tack on the extra game. For me, it’s probably a 0-1 game and I think everyone can live with one game and if there is an injury that takes Weise out perhaps they add another one. (Darren Dreger on Leafs Breakfast)
12:18AM: The NHL confirmed that Moore will have a hearing today.
11:48PM: Michel Therrien, “i thought it was the right call on the ice. We all saw it. It’s up to the league to decide what to do now.” (MSG)
11:15PM: Alain Vigneault said that the hit was late and that the right call was made on the ice. (Pierre LeBrun)
11:11PM: Brian Gionta told Pierre McGuire, “I think it’s a similar hit. It’s just a matter of what happens with the injury which I don’t like that they take into account because it’s a dangerous hit.
11:09PM: Keith Jones said on NBCSN that he doesn’t think Moore will play the rest of the series.
11:04PM: EJ Hradek says that it was a match penalty but that people in the department of player safety were not classifying it as “late.”
Hradek speculates that it will be one game.
10:42PM: Elliotte Friedman tweets “CBC technology indicates Prust hit on Stepan was .93 seconds after puck gone; Moore on Weise was .5″
10:33PM: John Moore was assessed a five minute major for elbowing and a game misconduct for a hit on Dale Weise.
Pierre LeBrun tweeted “Don’t think NHL Player Safety is going to like that hit by John Moore on Dale Weise. Moore gets a major. Woozy Weise to the dressing room”
Marty Biron tweets “I think Moore will be facing suspension with the shoulder to head hit on Weise. Head shots for me should get longer suspensions.”
