James Mirtle of the Toronto Globe and Mail says that similar to the 1994-95 season, back up goalies aren’t expected to carry much of a workload during this 48 game season.
Mirtle writes, “if you’ve got a star like Lundqvist, you could run him out there 44+ games and not worry about fatigue. Even with the playoffs, that isn’t too heavy of a workload.
He notes that many coaches may employ this because “every game will be so important.”
Lundqvist is the favorite to win the Vezina Trophy for the second straight season.
