Read: Why The Rangers Aren’t Trading Derek Stepan

It has been reported over the last few days that the Rangers are refusing to include Derek Stepan in any trade proposal for Rick Nash or Bobby Ryan.

Stepan, 22, is signed for one more season, under his entry-level contract, and has a cap hit of $875,000.

He had 17 goals and 34 assists this past season and averaged 19 minutes a game and about 1:15 on the PK. He had 127 hits and 4 game winning goals. He had nine points in 20 playoff games.

Adam Rotter: The same reason that every team wants Derek Stepan is the same reason that the Rangers want to keep him. I don’t think you trade the young two-way center, who is the best passer on your team, mature beyond his years, and will be able to had cost effectively for the next few years. He struggled in the playoffs and needs to be more consistent, but he just turned 22 years old.
