Early on in the playoffs, Alain Vigneault was asked if he thought Derek Stepan was becoming a leader on this Rangers team. Vigneault said, “I think he is a young guy on our team, real bright. Can analyze things, in my estimation the right way and as he gets more experience and more confidence I think he will assume a big role with that group and that team.”

Stepan set a career high this season in points with 57. He also took 30 more shots on goal this season than he did in his first two 82 game seasons.
In 24 playoff games, Stepan had 15 points which is one more than he had in his first 37 career playoff games.
