Read: Derek Stepan Has Been Playing Well

Entering tonight’s game against Montreal, Derek Stepan has points in three straight games and points in four of his last five.

Stepan has two goals and two assists in the past five games and led all Ranger forwards in ice time against the Senators with 26:21. The 26:21 that he played was a career high for Stepan.

Prior to the game, Joe Micheletti talked about how during Stepan’s slow start to the season, he was the first Ranger to go to the coaching staff and ask for help. He adds that Stepan is,  “a kid with a high hockey IQ that is extremely coachable. He is a wonderful passer and this year he has gotten stronger so he can hold onto pucks and make plays.

Dave Maloney added, “the stronger he gets , the smarter he gets the better hockey player he will be.”

Recently, Stepan  told the Rangers website, that the improvements in his game have had a lot to do with his line mates, “I got two wingers that are dynamic players. They have done so much that has helped my growth as a center. I try to keep my game as simple as possible and just let them make plays. They have been doing it on a regular basis. I am doing whatever I can is to anchor them down the middle.”

Carl Hagelin said, “he is doing a great job this year. He is even better defensively than he was last year. He is a guy with great hockey sense and he does everything out there 100% and does it well. He does a great job getting us the puck.”

Stepan is averaging 20:20 this season and has three goals and nine assists.

During his struggles at the start of the season, John Tortorella remarked that he believed Stepan would break through.

He broke a man's jaw, and he doesn't mention the victim's name in his "apology." Nice. I'm not buying your sincerity IK.  Seems pretty weak....

Jets need Geno to press charges. Tie IK up in court. If Geno refuses, cut his lame ass.

Is he apologizing to Bills fans for taking out their best chance at beating us?

@Bent Last season, Bills fans booed at MetLife when Geno was taken out after his 3 consecutive INT scat-fest.  In any event, the first Bills game is on Nov. 12, more than enough time for Geno to return, if he ever does return as the starter.

So there was a situation to walk away from?

@DRFC According to multiple sources, yes. Geno was in his face, saying IK wasn't gonna do anything about it, etc. Take it all with heavy scoops of salt, but yes, it wasn't out of nowhere.

@DRFC Geno has been reported as "taunting" IK before the punch, as well.

@hitchhiker Doesn't matter you just walk away. If he owes you money have your agent take him to small claims. This is absurd, the guy should be arrested, but in the macho world of pro football that just isn't going to happen.

I am just glad that we don't have to lose 3 of the first 4 games before we get to see if Fitz can play an adequate QB for this team.

Geno was a terrible QB, and apparently a lousy leader. I cannot see how this situation isn't better than it was just a week ago.

Also, Rex, I mean seriously? This fool is not going to last in Buffalo. The town will NOT like is style once the loosing starts. These are nice people (Went to school up there), not flashy people, he's not making it thru the season. Watch it implode my friends

@OriginalNick I agree with your first two points. Geno has shown very little as either a QB or a leader, and if we get anything close to 2014 Fitz, we'll be a better team than we would be with Geno.

But as for Rex, I think he'll get at least 2 seasons before the act wears thin. Nice as they may be in Buffalo, they also haven't had a coach like Rex before. The way he believes in his team makes you want to believe in them too, even if the product on the field stinks.
