Read: Carl Hagelin Gives An Honest Assesment Of His Start

John Tortorella spent part of the Rangers brief training camp talking about how he wanted to see Carl Hagelin take on an expanded role with the Rangers, both as a scorer and a penalty killer.

Hagelin agreed that he wanted to take that next step in his development during the season.

Through five games, Hagelin has zero points, 12 shots, eight hits and averaging 16:33 per game.

Hagelin is also averaging 1:28 per game on the PK.

In the NY Post, Hagelin talked with Brett Cyrgalis about his start to the season where he admits he needs to play better,“I maybe played well two out of five games, which isn’t good enough. Hopefully that last game was a step in the right direction. I know I have a lot in me, I just felt good last game and hopefully I can draw from that.”

He added, “I’m ready to play and ignite some lines.”
