Recap: Alain Vigneault’s Post Practice Comments (Henrik Lundqvist and Chris Kreider)

Alain VigneaultAlain Vigneault spoke with the media after practice today, his comments, via Rangers Report video, are below:

  • On why Chris Krieder was called up, “In talking yesterday with Glen and his staff, we felt we needed to see if Kreids could help us out in our top six. It’s usually an area where we have more offensive players. Both of those young men bring us size and in Kreids case a lot of speed. Hopefully they will be able to help us generate some more offense.”
  • On Henrik Lundqvist taking a maintenance day, “he just needed an extra day here. We had five days in between games and we thought it was the right day for him to do it.”
  • On the sprints at the end of practice, “anyone who has been around the league knows that if you have three days of practice that first day is going to be more challenging and that is what we did today.”

  • Would Henrik Lundqvist would have been pulled if Cam Talbot was up on Saturday, “you know, Hank is one of our top players, a leader and a force on this team. When you struggle, on a personal or team note, you let those guys work it out. Hank is battling right now and you people know that he has bene the best goalie in the NHL for quite some time. I think it’s a safe bet to say that he will find his groove.”
  • On what he noticed from Chris Kreider when he was in Hartford on Friday, “I thought his line had some real good offensive position. He used his speed and his body real well and he was put in the right role. He was on the PP, he was with two offensive players and I am hoping he will be able to bring that to our game.”
  • Does Kreider have to play top six, “with the players we have out that is what we need right now. We have 3 of our top six 6 out. Even though his training camp may have been more on the average side that is behind us. He went to Hartford, worked real well, worked hard, played good minutes for them and hopefully he can do the same for us.”
  • On him with Stepan and Richards, “most of training camp he had Richards and Nash and like I just said, his training camp was more on the average side but I think his time in Hartford…in practice he looked real sharp. Hopefully he will be able to do that for us.”
