Read: Alain Vigneault Doesn’t Have The Players He Needs

Alain VigneaultFollowing the Rangers loss to the Predators, Alain Vigneault was asked how he wants the Rangers to play.

Vigneault said, “Well I have an idea of how I would like it to play, not quite sure we have the personnel to play the type of game I would like to play which is with more of a offensive oriented. I think it should be obvious to everybody right now that we have a challenge scoring goals, not saying that we won’t get there, but right now at this time it is a big challenge for us and we need to be a little more defense oriented for the time being.”

Adam Rotter: It seems like the biggest difference, minus the Sedin’s, is that the Rangers lack the kind of defensemen that he in Vancouver that can put up points. While in Vancouver, Vigneault consistently had multiple defensemen in and around 30 points and usually at least one with 40. The Rangers don’t have players, with the exception of Ryan McDonagh, are are consistently adding offense from the blue line. Vigneault had Alex Edler, Christian Ehrhoff and Kevin Bieksa who all had multiple 40 point seasons while have had two (Michael Del Zotto in 11-12 and Michal Rozsival in 06-07) since the 2004-05 lockout.

The Rangers have forwards who should be counted on to put up points (Derek Stepan, Brad Richards, Chris Kreider, Mats Zuccarello, Rick Nash and Derick Brassard) but only one (Ryan McDonagh) who can add any consistent offense.

A good coach adapts to the players he inherits and can adapt to several different game systems. Have some accountability AV.

Correction, Vinny. Torts mistakenly formulated an "identity" around the players he already HAD i.e. settled for mediocrity, instead of demanding the players this team needs, like AV is smartly doing, and like Iron Mike did with Neil Smith 20 years ago. He is absolutely right. Let's see if Slats can answer the call to arm.

You can clearly see it after 30 seconds into this current game.

Must say this is the first time I have doubts about AV.  This is who the Rangers are and have been for many years like it or not.  It shouldn't be that surprising to him.  Did he not realize that when he accepted the job or does he believe he is a coach that can perform miracles in a couple months and change blue collar to ballerina?  This is almost the equivalent of Torts "Haglin stinks" comment.  Just be positive and coach the damn team up.

This has been the Rangers' problem for a couple seasons now...Sather needs to listen to the coach and make moves for players the coach wants, not players he (Sather) wants.

If Del Zotto is one of the few Rangers defensemen capable of adding to the offense, why have I seen his name associated with trade rumors?

Sounds similar to what another coach said about this team not too long ago.

Because MDZ's play aids the opponents much more than it helps the Rangers
