While talking with John Giannone after the game, Brassard broke the play down like this:
- Dan Girardi won his battle
- Benoit Pouliot chipped the puck out of the zone and with his “speed and reach” won a race and put the puck in a spot where he only had to skate in with it.
- The puck was bouncing so he closed his eyes and shot it
Brassard told Kathrynn Tappen after the game, “Ben Pouliot made a great play, a second effort to get the puck to me. I closed my eyes to be honest because the puck wasn’t flat on the ice so I just tried to go five-hole and it worked.”
