Read: John Tortorella Believes In Derek Stepan

Derek Stepan has one goal and three assists through ten games and is pointless in four of his last five games.

Stepan is averaging 2:10 on the PK and was put on a line with Carl Hagelin and Rick Nash during the game against the Islanders.

John Tortorella told the Daily News that he believes Stepan will answer the bell and embrace the position the Rangers have him in, “I think he’s beginning to play better.  He’s a very important guy. He’s a young man who we have slotted into a number two center. What I know of him, and honestly I know him very well now, I think he’s going to answer. It’s been a little inconsistent in his game, but I know he’s going to get better. That’s what I rely on in my head.”

Earlier this year, tn the Daily News, Rangers legend Adam Graves was asked about Stepan and praised his ability on both ends of the ice, “he’s a very efficient penalty killer, finishes his checks, makes plays, last season you saw that playing with Gaborik, and is a player that as a winger you enjoy playing with because if you’re open he finds you. He’s also a young man that I think loves the game.”

Graves added, “I think he’s someone that really drives on responsibility and he wants to get better and wants to win.”
