Read: Brian Boyle Is Only Blaming Himself

After playing every regular season game for the Rangers over the last two seasons Brian Boyle will be a healthy scratch tonight as the Rangers take on the Islanders.

To take his spot in the lineup, the Rangers are expected to have Ryan Callahan back.

Boyle was benched for part of Tuesday’s loss against the Devils and only played 9:36. It was the first time since 10/24/10 that Boyle played under 10 minutes for the Rangers.

Boyle is averaging 14:19 per game and 3:17 on the PK but only has one assist and eight shots on the season. He has 33 hits and eight blocked shots to go along with a minus three rating.

After the Rangers morning skate, Boyle, with the Rangers website, spelled out what his issues have been, “I’m just not playing well enough. I’m making mistakes and everybody makes mistakes but I am not contributing enough or playing to where I can play to. It’s not for a lack of effort, but there is no moral victories when you are 4-5.

Boyle continued by saying that his game needed more of an attitude, a more desperate effort. He said that he spent time after the game against the Devils reflecting on what he needs to do better,”the whole body of work this year hasn’t been there. There’s been up and downs. I don’t know what it is. It’s not reactive,  it’s just a little too much thinking and not enough confidence. I need to figure out a way to get back to playing well because I know I can and I have. I have gone through spurts where I have come out of it and I think they want me to do well and they are going to coach me to do well.”

John Tortorella has said that hockey isn’t about thinking, but about reacting and being quick.
