7:37PM: JP Parise released a statement to Tom Gulitti saying:
“I have to say I was extremely disappointed in how my comments were portrayed in today’s newspaper article,” J.P. Parise said. “I would never speak for Zach under any circumstance. He has not talked to me about anything other than the playoffs and we have not discussed anything but the playoffs and that is 100 percent where his focus is right now and I have absolutely no intentions to distract and get things away from his focus right now.”
9:39AM: At Newsday, Arthur Staple spoke with JP Parise, father of Zach Parise, who said that while his son hasn’t decided on anything regarding his future yet, he does like a certain coach of the Rangers.
“Zach likes Torts a lot. Zach knows how to work, he doesn’t shy away from the discipline part of it. He’d fit right in there.”
Tortorella was an assistant coach on the 2010 USA Olympic team that Parise, along with Ryan Callahan and Chris Drury, were part of.
JP added that Zach loves being on the Devils and loves Pete DeBoer and Lou Lamoriello.
When asked earlier this month, 73% of voters said that they would like to see Parise on the Rangers.
It has been mentioned before that John Tortorella could be a big factor in the Rangers possibly acquiring Parise.
