According to the NY Post, the Rangers will be in the hunt to sign Phoenix captain Shane Doan if he decides to hit the open market and not re-sign with Phoenix.
Doan told Darren Dreger that he won’t make his decision until July 9th because that is when more information on the future of the Coyotes will come out.
Doan’s agent told Brooks, “I don’t want to be specific about what teams those are, but there are no restrictions against negotiating with teams in the East … or the one in Manhattan.”
Doan was teammates in Phoenix with new Ranger Taylor Pyatt and played with Brad Richards in the 2006 Olympics and 2004 World Cup.
Adam Rotter: Doan, according to Brooks, can play on his off wing and be slotted at LW and possibly on the same line as Ryan Callahan which would give the Rangers a powerful, skillful and physical second line. To me, he is the ideal player to bring in. He already plays a Rangers style, can score, is a leader, and at the point in his career where he wants to get his chance at the Stanley Cup.
