Ray Whitney, who left Phoenix to sign a two-year deal worth $9 million in Dallas, told Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic that while the situation in Phoenix beyond this season is “iffy” he thinks that Shane Doan will remain in Phoenix.
Whitney says, “I doubt highly that he’s going to be anywhere other than the Phoenix Coyotes.”
The coyotes signed veteran Steve Sullivan yesterday as protection against losing Doan.
Doan played under Rangers head coach John Tortorella when Tortorella was an assistant in Phoenix from 1997-1999. Rangers assistant coach and assistant GM Jim Schoenfeld was the head coach in Phoenix at the time.
