Pierre LeBrun writes at ESPN.com that there is “no question” the Rangers will be one of the teams very interested in Parise.
May 24th, 3:17PM: In the Wall Street Journal, Mike Sileski writes about Devils captain and pending free agent Zach Parise.
He writes that the Rangers are planning to make a play for Parise and that Gus Kastaros of McKeen’s Hockey said that Parise is exactly what the Rangers need.
Former Ranger Kevin Weeks, who was a teammate of Parise’s said, “You don’t have to tell Zach Parise it’s time to practice. You don’t have to tell him it’s time to play and he has to play hard. He’s one of the hardest-working star players in the league—on every possession, on every sequence, certainly every day of practice and in the weight room.”
Sielski writes that Parise, a Minnesota native, could head to the Wild, while others think he could end up with the Red Wings.
Parise has 14 points in 17 playoff games and five points in the last two.
It has been reported that Parise likes John Tortorella from their time together at the Olympics and many Ranger fans would like to see Parise with the team.
Adam: When you talk about players who would be perfect for how the Rangers play, I think the list starts with Zach Parise. He is a force, skates hard, works hard, is physical and can score. Parise wants to head to a team that has a chance to win and the Rangers certainly do, but so can the Red Wings and they could offer him more money and the chance to possibly team up with his best friend Ryan Suter. If the Rangers miss out on Parise, I think they will make a big play for Shane Doan, if he hits free agency. Doan isn’t the scorer he was but plays a physical game, 205 hits, and knows John Tortorella from when Torts was an assistant coach in Phoenix in the late 90s.
