Buzz: The Rangers interest in Ryan Kesler (UPDATES)

8:20PM: Kesler would not waive his no-trade to re-join Alain Vigneault. The Rangers did not present an offer to the Canucks but did show interest in Kesler. (Darren Dreger)

8PM: Katie Strang confirms that Kesler will not waive his no-trade to come to the Rangers. (Katie Strang)

7:52PM: The Rangers have been informed that Kesler will not waive his no-trade clause to come to the Rangers. (NY Post)

11:20AM: “I think the New York Rangers probably have significant interest in Ryan Kesler and probably have some of the players, Derek Stepan who I think John Tortorella really likes and knows, maybe JT Miller and a first round pick. I’ve heard that Kesler may or may not want to reunite with Alain Vigneault. There are so many moving parts. If you are asking which team I think has the pices that most suits what the Canucks are looking for and interest from that team, I would say the Flyers, maybe the Rangers, to slightly lesser extent the Penguins and Red Wings but I don’t know what Ryan Kesler is thinking. I’ll say, Philly the Rangers and tied for third would be Detroit and Pittsburgh.” (Bob McKenzie on Team 1040)

On Kesler and Vigneault, “A lot of people in Vancouver, when the Rangers rumors sprouted up said, no way Kesler wouldn’t want to play for Vigneault again. I don’t know. I don’t know what is the case there and what the history would be. I do know that John Tortorella would know the guys coming in better than anybody and would have a significant contribution to that. (Bob McKenzie on Team 1040)

11:18AM: The Rangers are a team not getting a lot of attention but who could make a move on Kesler. One person told Craig Custance that the Rangers have enough pieces to make a deal work. (ESPN Insider)

The Rangers are keeping an eye on Kesler and if they can’t get Ryan Callahan signed they might move into high gear on Kesler. The asking price would start with Derek Stepan. (ESPN.com)

Water under the bridge. Hopefully we do make a move to improve because Philly has and they already jumped us in the standings.

I guess it was true that Kesler did not want to play for AV. So possibly go for Mike Richards? I wish, but no way kings would give him up.

Is Spezza a possible trade target?

Why the lovefest with Kessler?. $2M more per year but the same numbers. Kesslers FO% is slightly higher, but so is his Madonna like maintenance level. He is not worth what they're asking for.

I'd give up Stepan for Kesler no ifs ands or buts about it.

Too much give the Canucks, if I were gm, I'd pass. The Rangers need to do things to help build their team with young players and stop helping other teams rebuild by giving away their young players and draft picks.

The Rangers making a move on Kesler, dealing Callahan for something of worth and going after Stastny this summer is a good stepping stone in finally creating a team that can compete and contend!

He'll end up on the Penguins if we don't make that move...

I've said it before, I'd rather trade Brassard than Stepan but Kesler is a really good player -- the kind you would hope Stepan could be.  If you can get him for Stepan, a prospect and a pick, I think you have to seriously consider it. Trade Cally to recover what you gave up.  You buy out Richards and use that money to get a legit #1 center (Stasny?) and Cally's money for size on the wing and now you're talking.

@Ed Zambrano makes sense to me... it all depends who the prospect is and which round the pick will be from. Reports had the Canucks wanting a NHL young center (Stepan) and prospect and a 3rd rounder..

If the Rangers can be creative and trade Callahan for a NHL young winger, fully knowing that a deal is in place to acquire Kesler for the Package I mentioned; then make the deal.. However; if the Canucks want Stepan, Miller and a1st round pick; I wouldn't do it.

Stepan will never be Kesler. Doesn't have the intensity, skill, or skating ability

I agree man...even stepan admits he's "not very fleet of foot". And I agree with what every1 said, but if we do give up stepan for Kesler, then there's NO WAY we can give up a 1st round pick and a prospect too...kesler is also only a 50 to 60pt player and injury prone....and vancouver and ever other tgeam in the NHL knows this...I guarantee we could give stepan, a good AHL prospect, and a 3rd round pick 4 Kesler....Stepan is a 60pt per yr player...and doesn't get hurt...I believe he has quite a bit of value....and he's signed 4 another yr at a cheap price...ultimately, I don't think we get kessalsalaryer if we keep Cally tho...we won't have adequate salary cap space 4 the remainder of this year will we?? I mean whomever's salary we absorb will obviously be prorated for the remainder of this year so it'll be like 1/4 of the players usual annual salary amount right?? I forget how much space we have left....gonna check capgeek.com!! Lol

@Jason Pontillo @Ed Zambrano  I second Ed for GM.  Kesler and Stastny would fit this team a whole lot more than Stepan and Cally.  I wish Cally nothing but the best and think he'd be happy back with Torts under whom he had his best years.
