At Newsday, Arthur Staple wonders if Dustin Penner will be someone that the Rangers target in free agency to fill a scoring void.
Penner, 29, only had 7 goals in the regular season but has been an impact player for the Kings in the playoffs with three goals, two game winners, and seven assists.
He is 6-4, 245 and is coming off of a five-year RFA contract that he signed with Edmonton that had a cap hit of $4.25 million per season.
Penner is a four-time 20 goal scorer and one-time 30 goal scorer.
The Rangers reportedly had interest in Penner prior to him being traded to LA at the 2011 trade deadline.
Adam Rotter: Penner was a guy that I had interest in as a low cost guy with size who may have something to prove. Then he started to score a little and play better in the playoffs and I think someone will overpay him now. He isnt’ that physical of a player for a guy his size, 90 hits, but definitely adds size and power and if motivated the right way, could go back to being a good player.
