10:36AM: At CBC, Elliotte Friedman writes that Dan Boyle has lost his full no-trade protection and that with limited protection, teams have started to call about him.
Of Boyle, Friedman writes, “At 36, can still carry the puck, run a powerplay and has some of the best head-fakes in the NHL. (Only offensive concern: has trouble getting his shot through.) “
Last season in San Jose, Boyle had 9 goals and 39 assists, 17 PP points and played 25:34.
In 2010-11, Boyle had 50 points, 27 PP points and logged 26:14 per game.
Boyle, a right handed shot, has two more years left on his deal at $6.66 million.
San Jose has Boyle, Brent Burns, Brad Stuart, Marc Eduard Vlasic, Douglas Murray, Jason Demers and Justin Braun signed.
There were rumors yesterday saying that a Boyle for Marian Gaborik trade was “close.”
Adam Rotter: You can bet that the Rangers were one of the teams calling on Boyle since he is exactly what they are looking for. He is a right handed defenseman who can play big minutes with Marc Staal and run the power play. If the cost is Marian Gaborik then it’s a non-starter but I think this is someone the Rangers will continue to try negotiate for. Boyle is a key guy for SJ and their ice time leader the last few seasons, so he won”t be cheap.
11:29AM: Again, I think that the Rangers called up the Sharks and asked about Boyle. The Sharks, who are looking for scoring, probably asked about Marian Gaborik and that is where you get the rumor from.
