At OHL Blog Loose Pucks, Terry Doyle asked people who they thought would lead the OHL in scoring this coming season.
Possible first overall pick Nail Yakupov was the top choice to win the scoring race. As a 17 year old last season, he finished fourth with 49 goals and 52 assists.
Christian Thomas, who finished in sixth last season with 54 goals and 44 assists, was picked to finish fourth this season.
This is Thomas’ last season of junior hockey eligibility.
Thomas may get a shot to play in one of the three preseason games the Rangers have before going to Europe, but I don’t think he will make the trip with them. I think it would be a good experience for him, but I’m not sure how many extra players they plan to bring over to Europe, especially one that could go back and dominate the OHL again. As a veteran he may be the captain in Oshawa and that could be enough of a reason to send him back and have him try to lead his team to the memorial cup.
Thomas and Adam Graves, an executive with Oshawa, are helping out as coaches in a youth camp that starts today.
Any time that Thomas gets to spend with Adam Graves, on or off the ice, will help him a lot.
