At SI Red Light, Stu Hackel writes about the trade market and free agency and how Brandon Prust could be a factor in how the market shakes out.
He cites the CBC’s Elliotte Friedman as saying, on the radio, that the kind of contract that Prust gets will determine how teams are planning to spend this season.
Hackel writes, “he’s not a big scorer, but he is a valuable depth forward, a very good penalty killer who plays a hard, competitive game, and a dedicated team guy.”
Prust has been called “nearly the ideal John Tortorella forward.”
Adam Rotter: Zach Parise and Ryan Suter are going to break the bank no matter what the situation with the CBA is. If a guy like Prust gets overpaid, it could signal that teams are willing to throw money around at different players and may not be that worried about the CBA. The opposite could happen and besides Parise and Suter, teams may be afraid to spend on depth players.
