In the NY Post, Larry Brooks writes that it is believed that the Rangers untouchable players, in regards to acquiring Bobby Ryan, are Ryan Callahan, Dan Girardi, Ryan McDonagh, Michael Sauer, Marc Staal and Derek Stepan.
Brooks also quotes someone familiar with the situation as saying that the Rangers have a lot of assets.
In regards to what the Ducks may be looking for in exchange for Ryan, Brooks says “a package of young, cap-friendly players”
He also says:
It is unclear whether Sather is simply conducting due diligence regarding Ryan, who is being dangled by the skidding Ducks, or whether discussions have evolved beyond the tire-kicking stage.
That list isn’t really surprising. It is three of their top four defensemen right now, their best defenseman, their captain and a player, in Stepan, that they clearly believe, as do I, will be a top flight player.
I also wouldn’t read that much into players NOT on the list. Clearly Henrik Lundqvist, Marian Gaborik and Brad Richards won’t be going anywhere, but this also doesn’t mean that the top is shopping or ready to move someone like Michael Del Zotto or Artem Anisimov. I am sure that they would like to keep them, but in a case like this you need to give up players of value. You won’t get him for the Wojtek Wolski, Erik Christensen pu pu platter. It will cost something nice off the roster and likely prospects and picks to get a player like Ryan.
