Read: Benn Ferriero Impressed John Tortorella

Prior to the game against the Leafs last night, Sam Rosen asked John Tortorella what he was hoping to see from Benn Ferriero.

Tortorella responded by talking about depth and how he has missed having guys push each other, “with some of the people that we lost in the trade and losing 4 or 5 people from last year, I haven’t been able to maneuver the lineup to get a push from the lineup. If I see that this kid can play, he is going to play and I will bounce him all over the place.”

Ferriero played 12:32 last night, 3:58 in the first period, 3:06 in the second period and 5:36 in the third period.

He had one shot, shot blocked, missed shot, hit, giveaway, takeaway and he was 2 and 4 on faceoffs.

Following the game,Tortorella said,“I thought that little sh!! Ferriero played well.”

He added, “I liked his speed and his composure. He has some JAM to him, he is willing to play along the boards. What happens from here I don’t know, but I think he played well.”

The only reason he ( Geno ) was the starter is because Sanchez was done in NY. The fans hated him, and most of his teammates were disgusted with his horrible play.

I can agree that Geno wasn't ready 2 years ago, and even last year he wasn't ready, but this is year 3, and we should see a marked improvement from Geno, if we are to believe he has any future.

@ramble914 Agreed.  This is the "no excuses" season.  The Jets have the weapons at the receiver corps and a perfect OC to get the most out of Geno.  If he still fails, the Geno experiment is over.

I wish Colon would shut up. Don't the writers have someone else they can talk too, someone with credibility? Colon won't even be on the roster come September.

I agree with the first part of his comments pertaining to Geno being thrown into the fire. But to say that they have things all set up for him and its his job not to crash it, irks me.  Have confidence in your guy; This puts even more pressure on him hearing this come from his teammates, especially a vet leader

I not surprised that John Kerrey broke his leg, the way the Iranians been pulling on it.

These are the type of comments that weren't meant to be inflammatory. I think we all know this. But that won't stop Manish.

Relax, Geno will have that Porsche humming like a Yugo in overdrive!

(wait....that's a good thing, right?)

Geno will have the Porsche wrapped around a tree by game two.

Colon is right--Geno wasn't ready to start in 2013. He might not have been ready to start last year. But the only question that matters is whether he is going to be ready to start in 2015--and I really hope the answer to that question is "YES!" Geno has a lot of physical ability, but he wasn't ready mentally as a rookie--not a knock on him, since most rookies aren't ready to start. The success that Cam Newton, RGIII and Andrew Luck had in their rookie season seems to have skewed fans' expectations for rookies. MOST rookies aren't ready to start. And Geno wasn't most rookies--he was a rookie who ran a spread offense in college, with zero NFL similarities. So, as bad as Sanchez was, he would have clearly been the starter if he hadn't gotten injured.

@Daniel Diffin Geno would have easily been the starter if he hadn't have gotten injured first.  People tend to forget that Sanchez was having an awful training camp and was struggling mightily to master Marty M's west coast offense.

I wanted Sanchez to start the first 2 games, because the quick turnaround in playing the Pats on Thursday night in prime time was bound to be too much for any rookie.  But, Geno would've started for the simple reason that he was outplaying Sanchez in camp.

Revisionist history, Sanchez had outplayed him and would have started

Bent already posted this tweet by Seth Walder on another thread:

_______________

FWIW: when Colon said Smith was "never ready" to be starter, I think he may have just meant Smith wasn't ready in 2013.

_______________

Wasn't Geno injured during the preseason in 2013?

And doesn't everyone and his mother know that Geno wasn't ready in 2013?

So how is this a story worth any attention at all?

oh you better believe this is a story, damn near front page of the ny post or Daily News

Colon is right, Geno was not ready to be the starter. Think what you may of Sanchez but he had no business being in that 4th preseason game. At the time I said Rex needed to be fired at the end of the season. Not many agreed with me but it turns out I was right. It seems the players knew it too. The last season was an undisciplined disaster. Rex lost the team. I was right about Geno not being ready and I was right that Rex should have been fired at the end of the 2013 season

As far as Sanchez I was wrong. I thought he was going to be a good QB.

@Pat d

so ,  you are 2 and 1 for the 2014 season.  I'm proud of you, Pat.  Nicely done!  You beat Idzik on his last draft class for rounds one thru three!

SackDance99
SackDance99

@Pat d Except, it wasn't Rex's call to put Sanchez in...Idzik wanted him in.  And, like I say above, the assumption that Sanchez was going to be the starter anyhow obscures the fact that Geno was outplaying him until he hurt his ankle.

Colon is the anti- Rex.......doesn't lie about bad players simply because they are Jets....

"Geno was NEVER ready." Not exactly a revelation to anyone who has watched the Jets....

@Pat d thats the worst possible situation. I hope you are joking or else I have no comment. Pull the 3rd youngest starting QB, at home, after 1 half. If you were being serious I am genuinely asking you to change the team you root for, you are the problem not the solution

Pat d

If Geno struggles in game 1 they need to pull him at half time.

@Ehlun oh absolutely I know it was endearing. You should see the looks I get at the Aud for calling him that. Benn chuckles.
